Is it big enough for an 11 inch macbook air?

I think you would be pushing it. There is some room at the top where it closes.. SOME. not a lot. My approx measurements on my open bag are 10.5 in tall, 8.5 in wide, and 3.5 deep. I hope this helps. FYI, this bag is really beautiful. It's made well and it comes very well packaged. It's stiff and smells like new leather. I've had mine for a bit, and I've carried it everyday. It's starting to soften up!

Does it come with the leather pad for the shoulder strap, read some reviews and some did not get it with the bag

There is no leather pad. But in all honesty, a simple leather pad would not allow a person to make good use of a bag of this size comfortably. This bag requires a large rubber pad like off a rifle sling. Rubber pads allow the carry of five pounds on the shoulder in an easy and comfortable way and looks good on the strap. Also, this high quality bag is priced low enough that even with the price of a sling it would be a fraction of the cost of a name brand bag from the mall.

Is it real leather. And if so what kind?

The insert sheet that came with the bag says, "Your bag is 100% handmade from genuine unprocessed leather and is tanned using traditional Sun tanning process and vegetable oils. No chemicals are used during the making of this bag." The sheet goes on to explain that the bag isn't waterproof, and how all natural leathers will vary in color and change over time. I'm afraid that I can't find any further information about the type of leather.

Would it look odd to carry this bag as a purse?

I'm not a fashion expert, and the bag looks sort of masculine to me. (Perhaps that's because I don't want to look like I am carrying a purse) but I can see it going with a casual outfit, definitely not for a night on the town in my opinion.
