PreSonus MicroStation BT 2.1 Monitor Controller with Bluetooth Connectivity

Handy little device to make any speakers without BT have BT connectivity. The only problem I had with mine is one day I adjusted the volume, and I felt a shock, then something fried on the circuit board and the sound quality was bad. The PreSonus Customer Service was awesome, and sent me another unit for free, and didn't even require the bad unit to be shipped back.

It works as advertised. No need for drivers. You just plug it in and connect your cables and it's good to go. I have two different inputs coming in to the Presonus, one from my computer and one from my Focusrite recording interface. This allows me to play sound from my computer though my monitor speakers without having to use my Focusrite interface. No more switching cabled back and forth. I was also able to add a subwoofer using the sub out on the Presonus. It works flawlessly and does not seem to introduce noise to the signal. Having a sub out is crucial for me because my JBL speakers don't have a sub output. You can connect a bluetooth device in to the presonus like a phone, but a downside is that it won't seem to pair with an external speaker without a cable. I was hoping to be able to play music and stream to some bluetooth speakers, but it doesn't seem possible.

UPDATE: Even using a specifically 5V power adapter still has the weird high pitched noise. I don't know how to remedy it. First off, the design is nice and compact. I love how they added their lit up logo on the top; I have multiple presonus products so you'll see that lit up logo all around my desk. everything you need to control your monitors and sub are on the top, and the ports on the back are sturdy and easy to understand. The sound quality is pretty much the same if not that, as plugging it through direct to the speakers. There is one specific thing you (in my opinion) NEED to do if you want to use it correctly though. I would advise AGAINST plugging it into your PC or a USB Hub. This is only a controller and there's no drivers necessary so you wouldn't need to do that anyway. What I HIGHLY recommend to do, however, is to make sure you plug your usb cable into a power brick, say for an iPhone or something similar, that is SPECIFICALLY 5 volts. You'll notice on the back where the USB C power port is that it even says DC=5V. If you plug into a powered USB hub, or into the back of your computer, Or pretty much (from my experience) into ANYTHING that is NOT specifically 5 Volts, you will get this faint but audible high pitched squealing when you have the volume knob at 3 and 9 o'clock. And I know it has to do with the power because you'll hear the same noise even if you have everything BUT the power usb cable plugged in. So, if you have any of those mini apple chargers left over, use that to plug in the USB since those are rated for 5V only. The sound should be pretty much entirely gone when you do this. That is the only little quirk about this device, othewise I think it's a great product and perfect if you have your interface somewhere a little farther out of reach. Being able to pair your phone to your monitors through this box is also an additonal bonus as well if you just want to listen to music off your phone on your system. I personally use this paired with presonus eris e5 monitors and their eris sub8 subwoofer. The sub bypass button is really handy as well if you don't want to have the low end extension for certain listening purposes.

Recommended for studios with one set of powered monitors where Bluetooth playback is desired. I plug a Fire Stick into an HTML port on my (video) monitor in order to stream TV and this is an easy way to get the audio through my speakers. Also nice to have one handy volume knob to turn down the odd very loud broadcast, or website.

Bluetooth works great, the sub bypass is a nice feature and it eliminated the buzzing I had coming through my old one.

Especially handy for adding subwoofer if your system does not have a sub out. Mute function. Best part is this has TRS in/out. If you don't know what that means, don't sweat it but understand that TRS = good or professional-level. TRS cables and adaptors are more expensive but much, much quieter and reject noise like RF interference. Box is metal, great quality. Quality D/A conversion. Bluetooth reception is great but, as with seemingly all BT receivers, volume is a bit low, so I added on a line-level volume booster https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0945RFJ6Z after this device and before my receiver. Highly recommended.

Meine Anwendung ist die Lautstärkeregelung nach dem Audiointerface für aktive Lautsprecher. Der Lautstärkeregler hat eine angenehme Haptik durch das große Rad mit einem spürbaren Widerstand. Das macht die Bedienung angenehm und hochwertig. Hauptkriterium für den Kauf war der zu- und abschaltbare Subwoofer-Ausgang. Leider ist der Frequenzbereich nicht regelbar, aber das geht in der Regel alternativ über die Weiche des Subwoofers. Die Bluetooth-Funktion habe ich bisher nicht genutzt, und sie ist glücklicherweise abschaltbar. Einen klanglichen Unterschied oder eine ‚Eintrübung‘ konnte ich nicht feststellen. Daher für mich volle Punktzahl.

J’ai acheté il y’a peu, 2 enceintes Presonus BT et un caisson de basses Presonus. Les enceintes possèdent le Bluetooth donc c’était top pour balancer en direct via iPhone ou tout autre appareil ayant la fonction Bluetooth. Néanmoins avec le caisson qui est le SUB8 de Presonus n’ayant pas la fonction Bluetooth, c’était impossible d’envoyer les musiques sans être branché dessus en RCA avec un téléphone ayant un jack. Car les enceintes Bluetooth ne peuvent pas diffuser la musique qu’elles reçoivent en BT via leurs branchements TRS car ce sont des entrées et non de sorties. Donc les enceintes étaient branchées en TRS sur le caisson, le caisson recevait bien les basses, mais seulement si la source audio était connectée au caisson. Impossible de transmettre au caisson via les enceintes Bluetooth. Ça peut paraître logique à certains mais pour moi c’était flou. Et en cherchant une solution, je suis tombé sur cet appareil, la Microstation BT Presonus. Cela me permet d’avoir tout l’ensemble en Bluetooth, c’est ultra pratique. Certes c’est encore un coût supplémentaire à l’achat du système mais je ne regrette absolument pas. Avec la Microstation Presonus je suis en mesure de contrôler le volume de l’ensemble en même temps via le gros bouton de réglages, je peux également couper le caisson via un simple bouton. Et c’est vraiment pratique 👍 Fonction « Mute » également pour tout mettre en sourdine, pratique également. Un bouton Bluetooth pour activer cette fonction, un bouton « pair » également pour tout associer avec le système. Livré avec le câble d’alimentation usb mais sans adaptateur secteur attention à prévoir. Un produit d’excellence Presonus. Très bonne marque.

I use this unit like a mixer between my Mac and PC, and to monitor instrument recording to the Mac. This is a very high quality, quiet and useful device. With this controller I found an efficient way to connect my iPad and iPhone to my powered studio speakers via Bluetooth as well. I really enjoy adjusting the overall output to speakers and headphones with the easy to reach volume knob. I simply adjust the individual input volumes from both computers into the controller to attain the output mix I want to the speakers or headphones. Very high build quality. This unit will make it very easy to add any model subwoofer to my studio monitor system in future. I am very pleased with the purchase.

L'ho preso per un uso un po' diverso dal classico uso per gestire degli studio monitors. Lo utilizzo in una saletta di ascolto per collegare un giradischi (e tidal via bluetooth) a degli speaker attivi (Genelec). E devo dire che funziona benone ! Non parliamo ovviamente i audio esoterico, ma le uscite sono davvero molto silenziose e fino a tre quarti di volume l'ascolto è davvero ottimo. Il Bluetooth non è nello standard LDAC ma comunque fa il suo lavoro, considerando che di base non si dovrebbero avere grosse pretese su questo tipo di trasporto. Ma in ogni caso c'è e funziona benone. Il prezzo non è bassissimo ma la qualità è davvero alta.
