Q: Hi - is this good for a beginner who is just getting into electronic music? No prior experience with this type of equipment at all.

This could be a little hard for a beginner. However, there are video on Youtube that shows you how this works which will make the learning process much easier. Q: Does it work with rekordbox

Hello, The unit is a standalone groovebox and there is no Rekordbox DJ software support. However, you can connect the Circuit on a free line input channel on an analog DJ mixer and play along with your turntables or cd players. best regards, Anthony // Novation Support

Q: Can i use the midi tracks and the synth tracks for sequencing external gear? can this be used as a 4 channel midi sequencer?

Yes, however there are some draw backs. Synth 1 and Synth 2 will continue to play their own sounds if you have an audio out connected to the Circuit Tracks and the volume isn’t turned down. This can be nice for layering, but the volume knob is the only way to mute it and will affect both synth 1 and synth 2 simultaneously. The other draw back is an external midi controller will not transmit through the Circuit Tracks to the external gear on Midi 1 and Midi 2. There are only two Midi outs on the tracks and they both will transmit the same signals if the Thru is turned into an output. So for example, what ever signal is going on on Midi Out 1 channel 3 is the same signal going out on Midi Out 2 channel 3. You can not select a specific channel on a specific out, they are just duplicated. However, you can use a different channel on each track to control 4 devices. You will need at least two midi splitters.
