The only things that might make anyone hesitate is... it's not one of the 600mm options, and at the long end it's f/7.1. But neither of those matter... it's flawlessly sharp at all ranges so 500mm of this, is as good as 600mm of a cheaper lens. The f/7.1 is just the realities of a long telephoto, you won't get f/4 without paying half the price of a car. Autofocus is super snappy and I use this all the time for birds. It's the right tool for the job if that's what you're into. Don't forget the convenience of zoom, making it nice for the occasional portrait or landscape photo.
