Great sound.
I've had this same model Sony Walkman for many years and the old one still works, but I knew they were not being manufactured any longer and wanted a "back up" one. I was thrilled to find this one and ordered it quickly. I use it at night when I go to bed. It helps me relax and get to sleep. The pre-sets give me the option to switch radio stations from talk to various music genres. I use earbuds so it doesn't disturb anyone else in the house. It picks up lots of stations and the sound is great. Sony makes a good product.

Sony Walkman broken!
Unfortunately, the Sony Walkman did not meet normal expectations: It did not work correctly: 1) The cassette tape player did not work at all; 2) The headphones that were included were so old or stored in a place that caused the earbuds to disintegrate. 3) The entire shipment was returned to the seller as a result.

good walkman
I've had a few Sony FX 290's, but I've dropped them all, or they fell off a shelf in my garage, ruining the battery compartment, and the fast forward button would always fall off after a few months. I still use cassettes to record off my internet radio(low tech and high tech) and I have hundreds of them, but at 90 to $100 on Amazon for a used unit, I began looking elsewhere under the Sony Walkmans and I stumbled across this unit at a more reasonable $20. I did buy a Coby unit for $10..but you get what you pay for. Every cassette I would play would drag and sound wave-like. Into the garbage. I usually shy away from the Coby name, No matter what I purchased, the product was cheaply made and sounded it. This unit plays every cassette I have with no problem, and some of them date back twenty years. Battery life seems good, and I'm glad I made the purchase. I recently ordered another one. Cassette players are hard to find. I know listening and using cassettes is " so yesterday", but they fit me perfectly. I still have a cassette player in my car. I'm a big oldies fan. Every Saturday I record two countdown shows from Pop Gold Radio and Ride Radio off my Internet radio onto my line in cassette recorder and listen to them on my Walkman and in my car. It's old school, but it works for me. Cassette players are a dying breed. Glad I came across this one at a reasonable price.

Just received; works well. LATER.........sorry to say my Walkman stopped working. I have to return it.
I received this Walkman a few days ago and have used it twice. It works very well and I use it to listen to old tapes while I am speed walking. I can use my iPod ear buds with it, although it did come with ear phones. I didn't want to go to the trouble and expense of converting these old tapes, but just wanted to listen to them on my walks. I can fast forward past songs I don't like, or rewind to play a song a second time. I admit I was shocked at the cost, and am still rather embarrassed that I spent that much money. But I read all the reviews of newer, less expensive models, and finally decided to take the risk of buying a used - yet quality machine. I bought a guarantee so if it breaks down, I'm hoping it will be replaced. The sound is not the quality you are used to in an iPod or your iPhone. But it is just as good as you remember from your walkman, back "in the day." I gave this product 4 stars because of the price. I'm still rather upset with the price, but it was my choice so I shouldn't complain. The seller did write me a very nice note; the packaging was amazing, and he included extra batteries. I can only hope the machine continues to operate as well as it does now. Fingers crossed.

Listen to AM/FM Radio "AND" listen to television
LOVE this to use as I walk. Although a bit large, I can listen to am/fm radio or listen to television shows which is primarily why I purchased it. These are hard to find. I particularly like the TV capability because it reduces shows I have to DVR and watch later. Its not like TV hows are all that deep to comprehend by listening, and then if viewing is desired, there are the repeats.

God Bless This Walkman!
My mom gave me this walkman for Christmas and I have used it everyday since then. I tend to leave it on accidently but the battery's last forever. The reception is great, you can hear any station very clearly anywhere. It sounds like you are listening to it on a CD player! When, I say God Bless this walkman it is litteral as well, the walkman has a casset player which I use to listen to my "Hearing Gods Voice" casset tapes. It comes with a very handy case with a clip. Not to mention a nice pair of headphones. Also, it is very cool looking, I couldn't stop showing it off! Defeniatly a great price for a great walkman! God Bless!

Don’t buy a old used one
The Walkman worked great for about two months then stopped playing. It acts like it wants to run but for some reason the drive motor stops a second after pushing play. My advice for you is to buy a new off brand one and take a chance on it rather than buying an old used Walkman. Not sellers fault but my bad for thinking a 30 year old device would last.

In excellent condition
Just as I remembered in my youth, using it constantly , plays smoothly undistorted sound easy to use. Not too heavy, only wish it had a strap to carry around but that's the design, very happy with purchase.
