Does it work with linux OS

The Included software works with windows but I prefer to use the VLC media player which is available for most flavors of linux. As long as your computer has a USB port this should plug and work in VLC. VLC is free.

does this work with a mac?

Simple plug and play with Mac. Use the Photo Booth program (installed on Mac's) to view.

what is the minimum magnification?

You can focus it to infinity, no minimum mag. At the other end of magnification I have used it to examine 0.006 inch diameter end mills with no problem.

Are focus, zoom and lighting adjusted manually on the device or is that what the software does?

ehe software GW300x (provided) - Focus is manual (twist top of scope) , Lighting is manual adjustment wheel control on USB cable, Zoom is software controlled at 25%, 50%, 75% and Zoom out (Normal size). Specimen remains in focus throughout selected range.
