We brought this book from a friend’s recommendation and it was a really good resource for learning about Benedict. Get this book.

Sr. Sutera has broken The Rule down into a daily devotion that takes about 4 months to complete, so I can walk through it 3 times a year. Hers is the third translation I have used and I think it is the best. But more than the translation, it is her commentary that I really find valuable. She is truly blessed in her understanding and her ability to communicate the meaning of the Rule at a level that speaks to the heart, the mind, and the will. Her book is one of God's many great gifts to the Church! Also, if you want a supplement to this book, check out Fr. Augustine Wetta's book Humility Rules. His is a serious yet light-hearted YA version written for teenagers—which may be the best place for some of us to start!

Not only is this an excellent translation but the commentary and questions provide further explanation to the rule and application to our lives.

This version is VERY MISLEADING. The book title is St. Benedict's Rule: An Inclusive Translation AND DAILY COMMENTARY. However, I purchased the Kindle version, listed at $8.49, only to find that there is NO COMMENTARY. This is why I purchased the book. I already have the Rule in several translations. It was the commentary I was most interested in! I just wasted $8.49.
