Tecsun PL-990X Global Bluetooth Receiver

As most of Tecsun products, this PL990x is as durable as the others. Tuning is super easy thanks to the smooth knobs - a coarse one and fine tune. Does SSB, both USB and LSB well. I use mine with a 20m End Fed long wire antenna strung up from house rear wall all the way to the back of the garden and with the use of an MFJ Receiver Preselector I can easily pick up the faintest SW broadcasts and listen in on ham radio conversations despite there being a nearby MW transmitter. Otherwise the local transmitter would overload the radios front end, flooding the SW bands with UK Gold Radio. FM sounds superb with the biggish speaker and the radio can double up as a Bluetooth speaker as well as play MP3s from a micro SD card.

a superb radio with excellent performance the only drawback is that it is not very user friendly it has 100s of stored memories without much information of what’s in them. i can’t remember what each frequency is for so more info of what these stations. are. ie. radio 1

Amazing radio. UK based. Picking up a tiny Chinese island (hundreds of miles East of China) radio transmitter broadcasting china Radio literally the other side of the world. Reasonably clear. Have connected to my computer mic so I can record the audio, transcribe and translate automatically. Using just an 8m random wire up the side of the house at 45 degrees. Being on a hill 300ft ABMSL helping. Have picked up US stations also. FM reception is crystal clear. Miles better than my car's high end DAB radio or my home DAB radio.

An excellent radio well made and great reception, although a bit expensive.

Very pleased with this receiver. Build quality is superb and the inbuilt aerial works well. However, as with all receivers, some stations will require an external aerial for a half decent reception on AM and FM.

Shortwave listening. Good quality radio.

I love this radio, but acquiring 18650 Li-Ion batteries is more difficult than say, BL-5C batteries that other Tecsun radios use (like the PL-330). I would advise getting a brand-name 18650 battery, like Nitecore or one that is sold by one of the radio communication specialists that can be found online. Beware of cheap and nasty batteries from China that are available on Amazon that are just pure rubbish. The Moonraker Group sell Nitecore batteries, so I think that they would be a good place to find brand-name 18650 batteries.

Der Tecsun PL-990x darf sich in der Tradition so hervorragender Empfänger wie dem Sony icf 2001d oder dem Grundig Satellit 700 sehen und er erfüllt die hohen Erwartungen, die man bei der Neuerscheinung eines solchen Gerätes hat in vollem Umfang. Der Tecsun verfügt über eine sehr gute Empfindlichkeit, die das Gerät aufgrund der digitalen Filter und der damit verbundenen Trennschärfe auch sehr gut nutzen kann. In der Praxis lassen sich sowohl Rundfunkstationen (ja, es gibt immer noch zwei Hände voll Auslandsdienste in deutscher Sprache!) als auch Amateurfunkstationen in SSB sehr gut aufnehmen. Da das Sonnenflecken-Minimum mit den damit einhergehenden schlechten Ausbreitungsbedingungen auf der Kurzwelle endlich vorüber ist, kommt der neue Empfänger wie gerufen, um sich bei guten Bedingungen auf den Kurzwellenbändern zu tummeln. Das Gerät ist sehr gut verarbeitet und macht einen soliden und hochwertigen Eindruck. Für alle, die Spaß an der Kurzwelle haben, ist der Tecsun das ideale Einsteigergerät, welches auch steigenden Ansprüchen gut gerecht werden kann. Aus meiner Sicht ist der Tecsun das beste erhältliche Neugerät in dieser Klasse. Klare Kaufempfehlung. Kleiner Tipp: wenn’s auf der Kurzwelle nicht auf Anhieb funktioniert, fragt einen Funkamateur aus der Nachtbarschaft.

Estaba buscando un receptor de onda corta (SW) y me fijé en este multibanda. Creo que en esta gama de precios (por debajo de 300€) este equipo no tiene rival destacando por encima de todo la calidad del sonido que es muchísimo mejor que la de otros equipos incluidos algunos sobremesa caros (obviamente no todos) que he tenido ocasión de probar. Si mi interés fuese sobre todo escuchar FM quizás echaría de menos tener un par de altavoces estéreo, no es mi caso, y la incomprensible falta de RDS a estas alturas. La capacidad de su antena telescópica para FM/SW es sorprendentemente buena mientras que la antena interna de ferrita para MW/LW se queda en decente. La posibilidad de conectarle una antena exterior sería mejor si no hubiesen optado por dotarlo de un conector de 3,5mm pero eso es harina de otro costal y es salvable en cierto modo. Otro punto muy a favor del receptor es el tacto y la suavidad de sus botones (tunning, fine tunning y volumen) que permiten ser manipulados con precisión. A destacar para los que nos gusta escuchar emisoras no comerciales es que en SSB tenemos dos botones para alternar USB y LSB y la precisión de la frecuencia ajustada hace que, para entendernos, el BFO sea cosa del pasado. También a tener en cuenta que el botón de VF/VM hace de scanner si se mantiene presionado durante un segundo. Tiene por lo tanto detalles de equipos mucho más caros (high-end). Puede reproducir sonido grabado en una SD pero el error garrafal ha sido no dotar a este equipo de la capacidad de grabar en esa SD el audio sintonizado ¡con lo poco que habría costado! La pantalla también es muy básica, casi diría que desfasada para los tiempos que corren, pero cumple con su propósito. En resumen un equipo de calidad, muy recomendable, con mejoras no vitales pero sí deseables que tendrán que esperar a una futura versión si no queremos gastarnos mucho más dinero en otro rango de precios.

Como radioaficionado tengo muchas radios del estilo a esta y mejores. Lo compre como una posible mejora a otras radios que ya tengo (xdata 808, tecsum pl660...) para cuando me voy de vacaciones. La verdad es que la calidad de construccion es muy buena, el sonido del altavoz es excelente, la funcion bluethood es muy practica. El receptor de HF, por desgracia es muy normal, no se aprecia una mejora si lo comparas con radios de la mitad de precio. Es para no conectarlo a una antena muy grande o se saturara. La ventaja que aporta respecto a otros es que no se silencia cuando sintonizas. Un fallo importante, por lo menos en mi unidad es que el oscilador PLL no parece muy estable y en bandas altas en SSB se aprecia la inestabilidad del PLL y no da un sonido limpio (de 18MHz para arriba). Sinceramente, por este fallo y por su poca diferencia en cuanto a soportar señales fuera de banda en cuanto lo conectas a una antena grande no podria recomendarlo. Dejo un video de comparativa entre tres receptores conectados a la misma antena con un splitter, aunque por desgracia ahi estan en una banda baja y no se aprecia la inestabilidad del PLL.
