This is NOT what you would expect for under $30 anywhere! A little bit of polish or wax to seal it from any water stains and you have a great box for the desk, coffee table or end table. Use it for nearly anything....a rustic cache for a couple of glasses and a decanter of your favourite spirits (sans lid of course), an enclosed desktop storage solution with style, a bedside keep... you're only limited by your imagination. Excellent quality and craftsmanship, albeit with a light wood. Not a bad thing at all, just not white oak or American Walnut. All it means that it will garner more character and vintage appearance sooner. Seriously, this is a cool storage space that could be handed down to future generations and their possibilities! I highly recommend!

The fit and finish are perfect. Corners are dovetailed. Lid has an inset that holds it securely. The finish is smooth all over, inside and out. I did apply three coats of satin finish spray polyurethane. I purged my old coin collection -- I collected coins as a kid, dropped the hobby when I started college back in 1962, however, from time to time I would buy sets of coins, thinking I would start collecting again. Never did, wound up with a PILE of coins. Took them to the bank, got $227.59 in cash. Meanwhile, my old original coin collection folders containing my collection that I pulled together in the 1950's fit in one of these boxes, along with some old late-19th/early-20th century silver dollars. One of my grandsons wants the collection, he's picking it up this weekend.
