The Wolf of Wall Street

Super livre, j'ai étais surpris par le nombre de pages (519). Je ne suis pas un bon lecteur, mais j'aime l'anglais et ce livre est très intéressant et tenant, on a envie de savoir la suite, c'est ecrit dans un anglais plutôt simple, familier. Parfait!

One of the best read on's. Had already seen the movie a couple of times. Wanted a bit more detailed oriented approach wrt the work culture ;) Delivery wise - got it delivered in a day - Amazon's PRIME too good.

Beh che dire di questo libro...o lo amate o lo odiate. Il libro narra le vicende di Jordan Belfort, uomo che dopo alcuni tentativi imprenditoriali non pienamente riusciti (anche derivanti dalla sfortuna) costruisce una società di brokeraggio (la Stratton Oakmont) che lo porterà dapprima al successo e poi in galera. Il libro è un insieme di vicende realmente accadute che l'autore racconta in modo diretto e schietto e che di sicuro lasciano a bocca aperta. Dal suo ritorno a casa in elicottero che vi farà sobbalzare dalla sedia (e che non vi anticipo), alle scabrosità che lui e il suo team di stockbroker facevano nel posto di lavoro (dove i suoi broker si divertivano a fare sesso in ascensori trasparenti in modo tale che potevano essere visti da tutti o sotto le scrivanie) o dove si praticava in pieno orario di ufficio lo "sport" del lancio del nano o dove il suo partner in affari (Danny Porush) si divertiva ad inghiottire pesci rossi e tante altre storie del come "passavano il tempo" in ufficio. Ma la sua vita era pieni di eccessi anche fuori dal lavoro....lui e i suoi partner in affari ne combinavano di ogni. Dall'appendere fuori dal balcone al 53esimo piano di un grattacielo a manhattan un maggiordomo solo perché gay e auture di un furto (dopo avergli debitamente spaccato la faccia), al quasi violentare una hostess durante un viaggio aereo, alle loro avventure con escort (in cui vi verrà presentata una originale classificazione) fino alle loro avventure e scatti d'ira provocati dall'esorbitante quantitativo di droghe che prendevano e alla loro leggendaria "gita in barca" avvenuta proprio in Italia che non vi anticipo perché merita davvero la lettura. La sua vita è stata talmente piena di eccessi e talmente sopra le righe che il suo libro è stato preso a riferimento nel nuovo film di Scorsese "The wolf of Wall Street" in cui appunto viene narrata la storia della sua vita....dall'apice alla caduta. Non è un libro per tutti, molti lo potranno trovare scandaloso e vergognoso ma vi assicuro che vi strapperà più di qualche risata proprio per le disavventure ed esperienze che lui (e in parte i suoi colleghi) hanno vissuto. P.S: il libro solo in minima parte riguarda Wall Street e il mondo della finanza,ma è più una autobiografia di un broker e di come spendeva i soldi derivanti dal suo successo. Il libro lo consiglierei a chiunque perché la sua storia è davvero originale....certo è che forse è un pizzico maschilista e più adatto a un pubblico maschile che femminile.

I can understand how this book may not be appreciated or believed by the general public. Considering that Belfort is not a writer by trade or education, I thought he did well in describing characters and characteristics. I laughed throughout the book at his commentary and descriptions. I knew and spent time with Jordan for a period during his drug-induced haze-days when in my early twenties and I remember every moment and word...he is an amazing guy, albeit a true con and crook. I can attest that, with the exceptions of some impertinent details and timelines, what you can't bring yourself to believe is only half the story; it's all true and much, much more. Consider, prior to aligning him with great authors of AmLit, that his ego has its own zip code, he's a narcissist, a mysogenist, and addict. Consider also that he was on the cover of trade industry mags by the age of 30 who the SEC and other feds committed thousands of man-hours investigating. Belfort's scams caused laws and regulations to be created. This book is not well written, but it's a good read. Reviewers who disliked this book either cannot conceptualize such an extravagant lifestyle or were in hopes of a final moral redemption. Stick to novels...this is a real story and Jordan is incapable of delivering what you look for. He seeks the limelight, the attention, anyway he can get it. Take a deeper, psychological perspective: the hookers, the drugs, the abuses and crticisms of others...he punishes himself with his self-destructive lifestyle. And then brags about it. The next book, I am sure, will "regard" his arrest, his testimony against Steve Madden - who he, himself, criminalized (along with many others)- his jail time and his stint in the B-movie business.
