Q: How do you clean these? Are there spots mold can build up?

I put the whole thing in the dishwasher once a week or so, and we haven't had any issues with mold. My daughter has used it daily for 9 months or so. I'm sure mold could develop around the straw if you don't remove it periodically to clean.

Q: If left open and tipped over, does the straw prevent (or minimize) spilling?

Not really. There's no valve, it's just a straw. When you close the top there is a little plastic piece that you slide over which locks the top down. The only issues we've had with spilling is when my kids forget to slide that lock over.

Q: The lid had locked. How do I open it?

Q: Do these bottles sweat? Looking for a plastic water bottle for elementary kids to have at their desk so it cannot sweat.

Only the tiniest bit. I have one kid keep it in her lunch box, and her lunch box comes home dry. The other keeps it at her desk and says it's fine. I like that it holds a lot, but isn't one of those giant bottles that won't fit in a backpack side pocket!
