Sleek Modern Solid Red Oak Stair Newel Post with a Single Groove (3 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 48")

Seems odd to buy wood post from Amazon site, but I did.. Pricey no matter where purchased, but came quickly, stained up excellent and now adds to the beauty of my stairwell and Banasters. I'd do it again.. husband laughed when I said posts are on the way... very happy w/ product.. not the price so much.. ridiculous to pay such an amount for a piece of wood.. my carpenter was shocked.. but big box stores were even more... so again, Amazon is the choice for smart shoppers..

I bought 5 of these, they are a nice post, finished well, only sanded lightly before staining. Like others have said, two had dents on the edges. I was disappointed, but decided I could put them in a spot that wouldn't be noticed. The mfg tried to package them good, but shipping is where they get beat up.

Went to several hardware stores and could not find this style anywhere. Came fast, good quality and sturdy.

The posts were delivered promptly other than two of the three that I ordered were damaged. This is the worst spot to be damaged.

Just bought 5: 4 full newel posts, and 2 half newels for the wall. Stained great and matched the red oak treads I laid. Of note: these are SOLID newels. Couldn't find that in the description.

Updated my stairwell with these and new handrail. Great quality and easy to work with. Wood was free of imperfections.

Like others who have purchased this product, I received a newel post that had manufacturing quality control issues. The post was about 1.5 inches shorter than noted in the description and it had to be shimmed up at the bottom in order to get it the right height for the handrail. Eventually I will have to put some moulding around the base to hide the block of wood we used to raise the newel to its intended height. There were several small gouges in various places on the post including on the very top where it is difficult to fix or hide the flaw. The sanding quality was erratic and I found several rough spots that needed to be resanded. Amazon had also told me that this was in stock when I placed the order, and then missed the delivery date twice. I finally cancelled the original order and placed another order from another listing for the same product. It was not a good experience and it caused a two month delay in being able to complete the rebuild of the stairs in our home. I would have purchased elsewhere if I could have found a similar product from another retailer.
