Scholastic Bob Books - Long Vowels Box Set Phonics, Ages 4 and Up, Kindergarten, First Grade (Stage 3: Developing Reader)

These books are perfect for young kids who are learning and struggling to read. They are short books with simple pictures, and each book focuses on certain sounds. A bit on the pricey side, but no complaints because my son likes reading it.

This series was recommended to me by a friend of mine who used them with there 3-4 year old. A great set of books for the child who is just beginning to read. The words are simple and nearly always of the sound it out variety.These books are designed to teach reading skills acquisition. With a foundation in phonics methods, each level addresses a single stage of reading development. The illustrations are clever, the stories funny. The books are on the 'See Dick run' level but are much more fun than those old chestnuts. This is the fifth set in a series of 5. I bought this set for my son and he devoured them. we read one book every night. He was so happy when he could say that "He Read the Whole Book"!! He is now 8 and reading at a 5th grade level. I feel that the Bob Book series definitely helped in his reading skills. I would and have recommended these books to everyone I can !!!!!!

Great books, all three of my children started their reading journey through these books, perfect for first time reading.

I'm an American with a Japanese life and my 7 year old son was born and raised here in Japan. I've bought a lot of English study materials, and the Bob Book series has been uniformly excellent in every way. 100% recommend. Note that my kid at least wasn't self-directed enough to study by himself, except a few days he sat down to read the Bob Books. Instead, we had a mini "English Class" about an hour a day and worked through this material.
