The leather feels premium right out of the box, with a classic look and a solid, well-built structure that holds its shape while still breaking in nicely. It offers a comfortable fit and excellent control, making it easy to catch and secure the ball with confidence. The padding provides great protection without feeling bulky, and the glove absorbs impact well, even during longer sessions. It’s clear this glove was designed with both comfort and durability in mind. After a short break-in period, it forms perfectly to your hand and feels natural during play. Whether you’re playing recreationally, practicing, or just enjoying a game of catch, this glove performs reliably and looks great doing it. Vintage Charm, Modern Performance, and a Tribute to The Sandlot
The Rawlings Sandlot 11.5" Modified Trap-Eze Baseball Glove stands out not just for its performance but also for its Sandlot Edition design, paying homage to the iconic movie The Sandlot. The glove’s vintage aesthetic, featuring rich brown leather and classic stitching, beautifully mirrors the timeless, nostalgic feel of the film. The quality construction, from the durable leather to the flawless finishing, truly encapsulates the spirit of the movie. The craftsmanship is outstanding, which is no surprise coming from Rawlings, a brand known for premium gloves. I bought the "Modified Trap-Eze design", and for me it provides excellent flexibility and ball control, making it perfect for quick plays. Its unique lacing creates a deep pocket, allowing for a secure grip on the ball, and the overall appearance it lends to the glove is amazing. The lightweight construction ensures smooth and swift movements, enhancing overall fielding performance. This glove is great for the casual and competitive player alike. One thing to note is that this glove is extremely stiff out of the box—common with high-quality leather gloves. It feels rigid, and it’s clear that some effort is needed to get it game-ready. Fortunately, I already had a great break-in process in mind. Here's what worked for me: I used Ariat mink oil paste, boot brushes, and a custom-made rubber mallet that I shaped using a grinder. First, I applied a light coat of the mink oil paste, focusing on the pocket area to soften the leather and help the glove become more flexible. Mink oil is great for conditioning and softening the leather while protecting it from drying out. Once I had it well-coated, I grabbed the mallet and began pounding the pocket, working the leather to form a nice, deep pocket. Repeating this process over time significantly softened the glove and helped shape it perfectly for my hand. This method, using mink oil and a mallet, is highly recommended by experts. Both the Bruce Bolt and Rawlings guides emphasize the importance of physically working the glove to break it in effectively. Using a mallet helps create a well-defined pocket and allows the glove to mold to your hand for a personalized fit, which enhances control on the field. The palm darkens noticably during this process, so be sure to use leather brushes to spread the oil out after the initial application to create a pleasing gradient. Don't apply to much to the "fingers" of the glove, as you want those to remain stiff for a secure capture of the ball. Overall, the Rawlings Sandlot glove has become incredibly comfortable after a thorough break-in. The attention to detail, from the leather quality to the beautiful aesthetics, makes it not only functional but also a piece of gear you can truly admire. Highly recommend it!

Excellent glove
This is a beautiful glove! It is soft and broken in upon arrival and it’s great to use for laid-back play. It makes for an easy catch but it is still super durable.

Great glove
Not quite sure what to expect, as this is marketed as sort of a low to mid range glove. The need was something that would last at least a couple years (2 seasons a year) hopefully, but also fit well, and be easy to break in. Rather than starting with the $300 models that are certainly quality but harder to break in, figured this was worth a shot. And, very impressed. Build quality is good. Started off taking conditioner to the material and did notice a bit of a red tone rub off some, but that actually gave a nicer dull finish than the almost shiny that it had out of the box. Finding a lefty glove for a good price is always a bit harder. This breaks in well after a few hundred throws. Used some 1lb weighted balls to aid in the speed of this and it seems to do what I would expect from a hammer it to soften and then catch with it, all in one step as intended. My new break in method is going to certainly include throwing weighted balls at the glove now. And, the added bonus is the user can report on the padding effectiveness as you toss the ball harder and harder during the break in. And happy to report the padding on this seems to be doing well. This was the first “first base” glove used, and a noticeable difference from standard utility gloves to help protect during all the throws expected in the field.

Excellent Glove Great Quality, Comfort, and Design
This Rawlings Sandlot glove exceeded my expectations. The leather is top quality soft yet durable. It feels comfortable right from the first use, and after a short break-in period, it molds perfectly to the hand. Ideal for infield players, as it has the perfect size and a quick, responsive close. The design is classic and elegant, with a professional finish and well made stitching. You can tell it’s built to last for many seasons. The grip and ball control are excellent as well.

One of the best budget catchers mitt
This is the best budget catchers mitt you can buy. The leather is very durable, a little slick at first since it’s oiled leather but once you play catch and use it, the feeling goes away. Break in time was good not too much work needed as these mitts are pretty easy to squeeze out the box. Catches well once pocket and shape are formed and fits great. As for game readiness, not game ready right away but as mentioned before after some use in practice and playing catch it will be ready to use in game.
