You can use it through the film. It even sent me replacement films for if it wears out. It won’t be waterproof without that being covered.

No because I don't want to uncover my phone but it's like hard plastic and it looks like a somewhat blurry film, neat.

The back is hard plastic The trims are rubber The screen is a thin sheet of plastic Personally I think its a steal simply because I need a hefty case
