I bought a pair of these 1-inch (nominal) bulkhead fittings in April 2024 for $10. The application is feeding cables through the wall of a cargo container. The nut threads backwards. This isn't a problem and there's probably a good reason for this; I just don't know what it is. I used a hole saw with oil to cut the wall. A 1-inch (nominal) PVC pipe "nipple" fits the inside threads. I bent the PVC pipe and used it on the outside, pointing down, to prevent rain ingress. It all fits together nicely. The package included some teflon tape which is probably relevant for water tank applications.
