What a voice…
Every time I listen to Nina Simone, I want to hear more. This disk is the best yet, but I don’t understand why I didn’t listen to more of her music when I was younger. What a unique, completely musical voice, I hear echos of her in every female singer who came after her. Her stylistic range is amazing, compare July Tree, with the jumping jive of Gimme Some.

I Put A Spell On You by Nina Simone
What a soulful singer. I bought my first CD by Nina Simone just because it looked like something I’d like. I fell in love with her music. I later learned one of my sisters also loved her. And what an amazing life she’s lived. A real inspiration.

Excited it was re released!
My husband has been looking for this album, at a reasonable price, for quite some time. The older vinyl can go into the hundreds. He was so excited to see the vinyl was getting re released. We pre ordered the album and he had to play it right away! He loves Nina Simone! One of her most pop-oriented albums, but also one of her best and most consistent. Most of the songs feature dramatic, swinging large-band orchestration, with the accent on the brass and strings. Simone didn't write any of the material, turning to popular European songsmiths Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel, and Anthony Newley, as well as her husband, Andy Stroud, and her guitarist, Rudy Stevenson, for bluesier fare. There are really fine tunes and interpretations, on which Simone gives an edge to the potentially fey pop songs, taking a sudden (but not uncharacteristic) break for a straight jazz instrumental with "Blues on Purpose." The title track, a jazzy string ballad version of the Screamin' Jay Hawkins classic, gave the Beatles the inspiration for the phrasing on the bridge of "Michelle."

Pure magic
Recently a video made with the title song. Makes receiving this all the more wonderful.Sound, for my discerning ear is exactly as expected on a Victrola. Taking me back to my youth spinning vinyl.I’m able to distinguish digital versus record with precision. Even while not looking when swapped out. My grown son is amazed how I can tell immediately even when he doesn’t tell me he’s changing tech.Digital is more effortless and pure. Not what vibes original for me. This said, the sound quality of this pressing is fantastic.Vinyl risks imperfections in sound quality depending on a variety of variables.Back in the day we, meaning everyone with a record player or stereo turn table was none the wiser. We couldn’t wait to spin artists.Nostalgia is king. Relaxing. Reminder to me for simplicity. Stepping back from modern tech.Limited to one side. Even the German Shepherd knows when the sound stops. Cue to transition getting ready for bed. Sitting by the player for one side. Enough to relax for the next place. Bed.This album sound rings truer for me on a turn table then digital. Nothing fancy for speakers. Connecting yo when the artist sang. Thank you Ms. Simone⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💯

Love Nina, but only so-so selection of songs
Nina Simone is a cherished music legend for a reason - her voice and her spirit are unique and powerful. But, this collection only contains a couple of her more noted tracks, so I find myself wanting to skip some of the others. But, it's still worth having is you love Nina Simone.
