This was for a just turned 5 year old. She has ignored her other presents and played with this instead. It is very small so using it indoors is fine. It can do tricks and she figured out how to do that pretty quickly with minimal adult help (although her 9 year old brother was involved initially as this is her first remote control car but then she decided she could "do it myself" and told him to let her figure it out LOL). Needs 2 AA batteries for the remote. Fortunately you can turn the music off!!! I justified turning it off (before it drove me nuts) with the kid by telling her that her battery would last longer with no music so she didn't object. Nice remote control car, lights up, and it is pretty easy to operate and do simple tricks. Has survived collisions with wall, furniture, other people's feet... and nothing (what she hit nor the car) has been damaged so far. It was a big hit. EDIT - Actually I gave her this last year (not this purchase where I am writing this review), rather a year so) and it finally broke. She liked it so much she begged me to buy it again and so I did. First had when she was 5, now has and is 6.
