We do one letter a day (each letter has 4 worksheets). Most letters have an activity that involves cutting out the pieces to a picture and gluing them on - she really likes that. All letters have dotted letters for the child to trace. The rest of the activities are varied, including sequencing, tracing pictures, completing a picture that is missing parts (like a fish fin or whatever), finding things that are same/different, categorizing, etc. My daughter's favorite are the sequencing activities, which she also makes up a story about afterwards - that is her favorite part; so I would suggest adding that in...have the child glue down the sequence cards, then they narrate a story for you to write down and then read back to them. Lots of fun! There are also mini review pages after every four letters...my daughter calls them games and is excited to get to them. So, this workbook is fun for the child and great for practicing letter sounds and various other pre-reading skills and even math skills (like the same/different and categorizing activities). I would HIGHLY recommend this workbook. Review: We Love Skill Sharpeners! - We have used Skill Sharpeners Reading books with our homeschooling lessons for 2 years. They are a fantastic supplement to any homeschool curriculum. They contain colorful pages, and my kids enjoy reading most of the stories (We do one story per week). The stories are both fiction and nonfiction.

The cutting activities help build the fine motor skills needed for writing
After teaching my preschoolers to write and identify the letters of the alphabet, I used Skill Sharpeners Reading, Grade Pre-K to continue working on prereading skills necessary for learning to read in kindergarten. Each of the twenty-one units in the 144-page workbook contains a cut-and-paste activity that introduces a consonant sound and three activity pages that reinforce reading readiness skills. The cutting activities help build the fine motor skills needed for writing. I especially love that the exercises are unique and not found in other similar reading or writing workbooks.

No Vowels?
I know that vowels make multiple sounds but I was surprised that this book does not contain vowels at all. I think they should have at least included vowel pages for short vowel sounds.
