Will Eisner: The Centennial Celebration: 1917-2017 Review: Hidden Gem. - There are some important attributes of this book than can be easily missed, and it is a shame that sites like this one don't point them out to customers. This book was produced in conjunction with an exhibition of Eisner's work. Even if you are not a hardcore Will Eisner fan, this is an excellent opportunity to see and feel the artist's creative process in a volume that is fourteen inches tall. There are examples of graphite pencils, non-photo-blue pencils and brilliantly beautiful inks, paste-ups, fine art and personal works, use of white-out for artistic effects and fun typography. I overlooked this book numerous times on desertcart, until a random blogpost on another site took the time to share multiple images of the book's interior. If you are a fan of Eisner, if you enjoy graphic storytelling, if you have a soft-spot for inner-city angst, then this book is an excellent choice. This one is worth owning. Review: Love the artwork and story. - The cover condition was fair, but inside pages were very good.

Great read, bought it for my husband as he's a huge Will Eisner fan, we really liked that it showed more of his art and projects other than just "The Spirit".

A closer view at Eisner's work
Oddly enough no one has reviewed this book yet, maybe because it might draw comparisons with the earlier “Will Eisner: champion of the graphic novel” by Paul Levitz. Make no mistake, this one features scans from original artwork, and some I had never seen before, plus it’s published at a larger size. Since it was done for the art exhibition at this year’s Angouleme comic fair in France, it also features text in French and English. The whole affair is supervised by Denis Kitchen, so you know it’s in good hands. Some stories are reproduced complete, all scanned from the original artwork, so in a way this can be considered a sort of Artist’s edition at a smaller size and less expensive. It covers Eisner’s early years, the Spirit, the Army years, underground and his graphic novels (all reproduced from the original artwork). Highly recommended to fans of Eisner’s work.

This is a fantastic book, very large with, it looks like, most of the art scanned from original art work. I can't really add much to Diego Cordoba's fine review, but just wanted to say how good the book is for lovers of Will Eisner and comic art in general. I have several books on Will Eisner's art and love them all, but this is the best Eisner book yet. No matter how good the book is, I had an uncharacteristic problem with Amazon on this one. My first copy came promptly and the packaging was intact, but the upper right corner was crushed. I returned it and got another copy ordered. Today it arrived, the packaging intact and not damaged but it too had the exact same problem as the first. I am returning it and will source elsewhere and hope to get a perfect copy of this great book.

This is a catalog of an exhibit of Eisner's originals. If you are unfamiliar with Eisner's original art, this is a cost-effective collection, smaller than the two Eisner Artist Editions in size, but still large enough to appreciate the art. Comics art from before and after World War II is included, as well as lots of art from Eisner's graphic novel period. If you like Eisner, this book is worth having.
