Mae Jemison: Ready-to-Read Level 3 (You Should Meet) Review: Very pleased customer - This book was excellent. My grandchild loved it. It was clearly written and very interesting. She loved reading this book. Review: Great book! - My three-year-old is now obsessed with Mae Jemison, her first hero! This book is great for a wide age range -- I have to trim it down some for my 3-yr-old's attentions span, but she loves it, and she will be able to keep reading it and one day read it to herself. Mae Jemison had an absolutely fascinating and inspiring life. We ordered several of these biographies for kids books, but this one was the one that captivated my daughter. The story starts when Mae was 3 (yep, my 3-yr-old gets a kick out of that!) and has a few more pages when she was a kid, then lots as a young adult and into her time at NASA, plus a chapter on life after NASA. All in all great book -- interesting read, fascinating subject, good illustrations, just great!

Great for budding scientists
As the mother of a bright young reader who is interested in science, I've been on the lookout for books featuring female pioneers. This book on Mae Jemison fit the bill. My almost-6-year-old is in that spot where she needs harder material, but really wants pictures to accompany it. This is our first Ready to Read Level Three book, and it's perfect. We began with me reading it out loud. The book is definitely for stronger readers, and there are some parts that needed explaining for a kindergartener. But now that we've gone through it once, my daughter has taken to it on her own. Beyond being a great book about an amazing woman, You Should Meet Mae Jemison is a great option for expanding a child's world view. Although my daughter has an African-American cousin, we live in a very white community, and explaining that people have been — and continue to be — treated differently because of skin color (and gender) has been confusing. This book, along with an excellent one about Rosa Parks from American Girl, have really helped move that discussion forward.

Well received by students and teachers alike
Every title in this series is popular with our 2nd and 3rd graders. They are Accelerated Reader leveled from 2nd - 5th. The books have plenty of good information for biography reports for our 2nd graders. The information is accurate and put together in an interesting chapter format. There are illustrations running through each book to enhance the story. The quality of the paperback is good. These are a "go to" for our students. I have many of them for this reason.

Highly recommended
I love these books. I'm constantly looking for interesting nonfiction texts for my classroom. These are perfect for my third graders and they can not get enough of them. Kids are constantly coming up to me and telling me new facts that they have learned from the books in this series. Great for science, reading, social studies, history, vocabulary, etc. Highly recommended!

Excellent!
Excellent story, illustrations and readability for young children. Jemison's story is awesome, and it especially connected with my daughter how she was many things (dancer, artist, doctor, humanitarian worker in Africa) not just an astronaut. Important for children to know there are many sides to who we are and who we can choose to be.

Enjoyable Read
My daughter and I really enjoyed this book. She enjoyed learning this was a true story and she too could aspire to be an astronaut like Mae Jamison. It is quite an inspiring book for your young reader.

Good info and a fun read
Informative and engaging! I ordered this to use at a Girl Scouts Daisy troop meeting for Black History Month. It was just right for the girls (K-1).
