This is a great product at a great price and works just fine. There are a few reviews about whistling and to be honest, we had very high pitched whistling when first installed. This isn't a problem with the unit, but rather a consequence of the flex line connection my plumber used. Traditional yellow flex lines have A LOT of tight ribs with sharp edges. These lines can kink and add a lot of additional disruption to the flow of gas. As a result they create significant turbulence which vibrates and causes whistling at higher flow rates. To get rid of the whistling you need to ideally just use solid pipe and pipe bends (smooth on inside so no turbulence) or specially designed whistle free flex lines. This will clear up all problems. The use of an additional orifice isn't going to make much of a difference if you are using a yellow flex line. I would guess that the other reviews with whistling are all used flex lines. While this might work with shorter burners, the larger the burner the greater the resonance and whistling you can create.

Used 30” H burner, a 150K air mixer, and 50 lbs. of 1.5-2” lava rock. Ended up with this great looking propane fueled fireplace. It looks very different from the standard “Gas Fireplace Logs”.. Tell guests we burn ”Coal”… because that’s exactly what it looks like. Lava rock glowing a nice amber red after a few minutes of operation. A nice blue/yellow flame shows the propane air/fuel mixture correct. Hint.. The air mixer / corrugated SS flex piping wants to introduce an annoying whistle/hiss. The trick in minimizing the sound, is the piping. Start with the flex piping from the fuel source to air mixing valve. Then from the air mixer, using ½ black pipe .. at least two 90 elbows and a total of 10”-15” + of ½ black pipe to H burner.. Piping works as a muffler for the hiss.. Don’t directly feed H burner from corrugated SS flex piping will introduce a whistle. The mixer valve noise was further reduced by sliding the air mixing valve assembly inside an 18” +/- length of open ended 1-1/4” black pipe, combined with creative use of insulation and burying the above in the back of the fireplace under a layer of lava rock. (Some engineering skills required.. But you get the idea.. ) If you have natural gas, installation becomes much simpler. No mixing valve but still use the same logic with the SS flex hose / ½ black pipe to prevent introducing a whistle/hiss. The same logic holds when assembling an outside fire pit. Enjoy. Just added two boxes of "10 Count - Large Log Sets" from Amazon .. Looks real nice...

It may be the medium I am using (broken glass) or the size of my pan, but the flames were not consistent. Maybe too many holes. Otherwise, it looks good.

Works fine, but whistles. The price was great, so it's still a bargain. This doesn't come with any fittings, so make sure you have what you need to install, or buy a kit.
