ease of nails removed
Bought this as use alot of pallets and ideal for removing nails with ease, does mark wood but for pallet use doesn't matter. Easy to use, build quality seems ok but there's no safety, so be careful.

Very useful tool, well made and works perfectly
I break a lot of pallets for our log burner. I'm quite picky with the pallets I collect, they have to be heat treated, unpainted and with wooded supports (rather than the glued chipboard kind). If I find them in really good condition then I'll use the wood for making stuff, like stools, small tables or display shelves. Whatever happens to the final wood I prefer to remove, rather than cut, the nails. This is a very slow process by hand, using a claw hammer, and I'd read good things about nail punches. I chose this one on the basis of price (sub £50 at the time of purchase) and reasonable reviews. It arrived with a quick release connector, so I had to buy an adaptor as my compressor had a threaded end on the hose, but that was cheap and easy to fit. I find it works best with the compressor at between 4.5bar and 7bar. Once the pressure hits 4bar or so the nail is only partially punched, and I need to recharge the compressor tank. At the higher end of the pressure range it punches the nail with quite a bit of force. On nails which are fairly easy to remove, this punch pushes them out easily, they bounce off the floor and can end many feet away, so I always use eye protection, and ear protection as it's a very noisy process. The instructions also recommend adding a little oil to the mechanism before each use. I also noted that there's a replacement piston driver available, useful should the original get damaged or the seal wears. The overall quality of the tool seems excellent, quite heavy and can be used to straighten nails if they are bent over a little. Though for curved nails I straighten with a claw hammer before punching. I wouldn't quite call this a game changer, but it comes pretty close, it speeds up nail removal quite dramatically. I was very please to get this at under £45 with an Amazon discount.

Works well.
Works well, and seems to be well-made, but only time will tell Best held away from the surface of the timber, as it does have a lot of power.
