The Singing Flame: 2 (Ernie O'Malley Series)

A must-read for those interested in this period of Irish history. Not much has been written about the period following the War of Independence, a period many Irish have airbrushed out of history. I read Ernie's 'On Another Man's Wound' (twice) which is how many Irish like it - focus on the war against the British, not the civil war that followed. Written in a similar vein to its predecessor, it can be a tad heavy in places especially as Ernie will never use one word when ten will do, but it's thought-provoking and very well-written. Ernie was as good with the pen as he was with a gun but if you do read this, make sure you read 'On Another Man's Wound' first.

Excellent book well written by O'Malley. makes you appreciate the passion of these patriots and the hardships they endured to gain independence.
