KKSB Cases Khadas VIM3 | Machined Aluminum Khadas VIM3 Enclosure with Built-in Heatsink

I've been using and playing with SBCs for over 10 years. And, I have quite a collection of enclosures. This case by Khadas is a real winner for the VIM3 board in a low-profile style. This case fits the VIM3 precisely and very diminutive. All aluminum material and all ports are exposed and accessible. This case is easily attached to the back of display for use in a kiosk type application.

Versand sehr schnell und gut verpackt. Das Case ist ein echter Hingucker, so dass es einen festen Platz auf meinem Schreibtisch gefunden hat. Montage mit nur vier Schrauben und direkt einsatzbereit. Der Innenraum ist durchdacht, so dass ich die VIM3 sehr leicht platzieren konnte. Tolles Gehäuse, leitet die Wärme gut ab und entspricht meinen Erwartungen.

This is one of the best looking cases that I have been in the SBC world. Professional finish, sturdy and everything fits in nicely. However there is room of installing a cooling fan. The product mentions that the case does not need a fan because the heat the case itself acts as a heat sync. May be this is enough, but the case is warm to touch even when the board is not running any complex computations. I wonder if the cooling will be sufficient when the board gets very busy running AI computations.

Das VIM3 Board passt sehr gut zum Gehäuse. Alle Öffnungen für Stecker und die Drucktasten an der Seite sind exakt, keine Probleme. Auch lassen sich alle Steckeranschlüsse super benutzen. Damit hatte ich keine Probleme. Größtes Problem ist die Wärmeableitung. Der Prozessor taktet stark herrunter um die Chip Temperatur zu regulieren. Die Peformance ist sehr schlecht im Vergleich zum VIM3 mit zugehörigen Kühlkörper und Lüfter. Der Lüfter ist für diesen Prozessor unbedingt notwendig um eine Reduzierung der Taktfrequenz zu vermeiden. Das original Khadas Gehäuse ist diebezüglich besser, aber nicht so schick. Aus Gründen der Performance, ist für mich wichtig, benutze ich das Gehäuse nach kurzen Test 2h nicht. Weiterhin geht mit diesen Gehäuse WLAN und Bluetooth nur mit einen zusätzlichen USB Dongle, man verliert daher einen Steckplatz. Es ist aber auch möglich die externen Antennen über zugehörigen Leitungen und der Öffnung für das IO Interface anzuschliessen. Funktioniert, ist aber alles Andere als schön.
