I put this on my gate YESTERDAY and it has rust on it TODAY. In less than 24 hours, it started rusting. I had no idea that was even physically possible. We had light rain last night and that caused the rust. I knew something was up when I was screwing it in and the screws were stripping from the slightest resistance. Thanks CHINA!

Pretty design and easy to use.

I just ordered my second one of these after trying a similar model from the local big-box home improvement store for my second gate. I like this product much better because it is rustic and heavy duty looking. Plus, it latches the gate tightly shut. The local product had too much give in the latch mechanism so the gate had about 1/2" play and didn't stay tightly shut. My neighbor ordered 5 of these after seeing how nice they are. One word of warning, they do rust, especially the provided screws. I use my own galvanized, black screws to overcome that problem. Also, the shaft that goes through the gate to the inner handle, is a bit long for my gates (with 5/8" picket over a the thin dimension of a 2x4). But cutting it to size with a hack saw is a simple matter.

This is great! Very simple to install and perfect for rustic style doors. We used this on a cedar plank door leading to our well pump / wine cellar. No other style of gate latch or regular door knob assembly worked. This did and works very well. It is also very well made... all solid steel.

Looked good originally but started to rust within the first year. Eventually the metal rings holding the internal shaft rusted and warped and is no longer secure.

This looks great on my fence, everyone loves the look. However there were some burrs in the inside that stopped the ring clips from engaging properly. I had to use my Dremel tool to grind them off to get the ring clips engaged, otherwise the handles pulled off. Check to make sure the ring clips are properly set when you receive the item, by wiggling the rings and trying to pull them off. Send it back for refund or replacement right away if they aren't set, unless you have a tool and the patience to grind down the excess iron. Also, there is a surprising amount of friction in turning the ring from the outside. I greased it up and now it works ok for strong adults, but kids are better off with a string pull system for entry from the other side.
