As described - no problems Bought on the recommendation from a tutor for university German module (complete beginner), however, would not recommend for beginners as there is NO English in the book.

This is the text book we use in our German for Beginners Class. It is in two parts - the first part is for learning and the second for practising what has been learned. There are also two CDs with listening exercises. Everything is in German - instead of the usual English/German - and I am enjoying using the book. It is an excellent book for a class situation. The exercises are interesting and relevant, and everything we learn is reinforced. I would recommend it.

Recommended by my teacher for those who are moving to Germany

I am doing a German course using this book at present. The only rather annoying thing about the book is that even the instructions are in German, so before you attempt even the simplest exercise, you have to get out the dictionary to see what it is you are being asked to do! I gather the American version has the instructions in English? One up for common sense, when you are at the beginners class. I'm sure once you know some German, then this won't be such a problem.

I had to buy this for my German course but I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to learn German by themselves.

I had to buy this book for a Beginners German Class, and this is the textbook they use. I bought it 2 months ahead of the class, so I could study in advance. Unfortunately, the instructions are all in German, so I purchased another beginner's book and CD with instructions in English to start learning German in advance of the class as I am a complete beginner. If you are learning without the support of a class, I wouldn't recommend this book. Another point is that the book is split into two with a coursebook section with the various chapters, and a workbook section with chapters that mirror the coursebook. Please note, the CDs supplied are only for the workbook, and this caused me much confusion when I tried to listen to the CD at the first and couldn't understand why the tracks bore no relation to the text! You need to purchase the CDs for the coursebook at additional cost.
