Buy well, buy once. Or twice, if you need two :D
I bought a pair of these for my girlfriend about seven years ago and they're still as good as they ever were. I bought Felco's diamond sharpening stone too and along with common sense maintenance I can honestly see them lasting a lifetime. My mum needed a new pair of secateurs - she has a drawer full of cheap ones, I did my best to fix them up but they're just not good, they're semi-disposable really. So I bought another pair of Felcos and she's extremely pleased. I'll keep on top of the maintenance for her but putting them side by side with a knock off pair she has was laughable. I don't really garden myself (well I do, but I don't love it!) but I like my tools and appreciate a well made precision tool when I see it. There's tools you buy for an odd job that you probably won't use again, so a cheaper one might do. Then there's tools that will be a mainstay of your longterm hobby or work and it's always worth buying the best you can, both economically and for the best results. Secateurs definitely fall into that category as they'll potentially see decades of year-round usage. The fact that the Felcos can be easily maintained, stripped down, have their parts replaced and the business end is made from extremely high quality steel (they come with a precise cutting edge that will pass the "paper test") means that for less than £50 they're a sensible investment. I use a variety of cutting tools in my hobbies and the Felcos are as good as any of them. So, don't have a drawer full of rusty blunted tools! It's a shame that people replace their secateurs when they stop cutting or functioning as they should, whether that's through lack of maintenance or just buying the cheapest ones they can. It's wasteful and a false economy. Grab a pair of Felcos, maintain them, and you'll have years of gardening joy (whatever that is!).

Great product
Although they are expensive, they are worth it. I have another set that have last 30 years, only requiring a spring change 5 years ago.

Excellent secateurs, minor niggles.
I chose these secateurs as I have very tiny hands and these are just the perfect size. They are lovely to hold and use, having a nice weight to them. They are beautifully sharp and a pleasure to use, cutting cleanly and easily. I thought hard before buying them as you can purchase secateurs far more cheaply, but I have now been through several pairs of cheap secateurs and they all become difficult to use very quickly, so are a false economy. These secateurs if properly looked after should last a life time. The packaging has a full diagram of the parts, and instructions for servicing the secateurs yourself. I like the fact that in these days when everything is made to throw away, these buck the trend. The red handles are comfortable to grip and make them easy to spot when left lying around the garden or allotment. I do however have a couple of small niggles, the locking mechanism was awkward to start with and after a couple of uses became impossible. I could not open them at all. Eventually I applied WD40 and left it to work its magic. It took several hours before I could open them, then I could not lock them - it was a full day before I could lock them again. However, it appears to have worked and I have been able to lock them ever since. The other point to note is that the catch to lock them is quite sensitive and you think it has locked only to find that they suddenly spring open and you need to push the catch round a further notch. This said I wouldn't swap them for another brand.

Great pair of secateurs for the smaller hand.
I've been using Felco secateurs for over thirty years and find them incomparable to cheaper copies, I don't know why but they just out perform secateurs that look identical to Felcos. They continue to be the choice of professionals so that tells you something. I use a Felco 2 as it is a full size professional pair of secateurs. I bought these Felco 6 as a present for me mum as they are slightly smaller and I think she'll find them just right for her hand. I bought a pair of Felco 6 secateurs many years ago and found them to have all the wonderful robustness, sharpness etc that I'd come to expect from Felco. They are perfect for dead-heading, cut flowers, and smaller pruning jobs. For general gardening and the ability to prune stems of a diameter of an inch or more I'd always choose Felco 2... but I think many women would enjoy the smaller Felco 6...the jaws open a little less but they are precise and light in the hand. The info on the box says the secateurs can cut up to 0.8 inches and is suitable for a medium hand. Perfect lady secateurs I'd say...for larger pruning use a pair of loppers.

Great quality and ideal for small hands (I'm 5 ft 2). Cuts up to 2 cm stems quite easily. They don't sell them at the local diy stores so thanks Amazon.

top. it looks great, it feels great in the hand, excelent quality. Size wise is medium but can really fit well in small hands or large hands. I was in between felco 2 and felco 11, I choose the 11 as it is a bit more refined and made of steel, less bulky than the felco 2, better suited for delicate cuts, just what I needed. well worth the expensive price; I just had to throw 2 other secateurs that I had for not such long time, some cheaper ones, already broken. this one seems to be made to hold for life.
