Review: Amazing series, great book - Awesome book, very informative. I love this entire series. It's laid out chronologically from the "beginning of science" to modern day concepts, and so paints a very interesting story via the historical context. Topics are grouped into 1-4 pages and clear flow charts and diagrams are used to simplify difficult ideas down to their bare bones. Really useful and engaging book. It also describes interesting stories about the lives of the famous people who came up with the theories, giving an insight into what the world was like then. I bought a second copy of this to give to my Physics teacher. He was always really great at telling us fun stories in class, and I thought he could use some more ideas from this. :) Review: Don't have to be a book worm for your kids to love this. - My son saw this at school and said he wanted one for Christmas because it was so good if you love science. Hes not even a book kid, but is 9 years old and started talking to me about cells and mitochondria??

Super accessible book, for children and for adults who could do with a refresher
Love this book. Brilliantly laid out, very very accessible. Maybe suitable for kids over 10 but it's a fantastic book for adults looking to refresh their knowledge, or even to understand something they have previously heard about, tried to learn, but that keeps slipping away from them because they have not properly grasped it. Love the layout of the book and the way the science is placed in its historical and chronological context - makes it all tie together and makes the study of science seem like a single communal progression rather than a series of unconnected discoveries. Well worth having and dipping into or reading all the way through. If you would like to understand science better, and get to grips with what may seem like a daunting subject, this could work well for you. If you think you understand science already, but would like to be able to boil it down to its essentials, or want help to teach it to others, or your children or to your class, this could be an invaluable resource.

Useful resource for parents with kids in Primary or Secondary education
Useful to discuss if you have kids in primary or secondary school, have had a chance to discuss a couple of topics so far with my 7yr old, need to make it a habit so he learns bit by bit. Useful resource and concepts are summarised and easy to understand with pictures. For a more detailed explanation you would be going for the internet or a more detailed science book. The book covers a vast variety of topics though which is quite good as its easy for a kid to pick it up and readup on a topic for a quick overview.

As a science enthusiast I am thoroughly enjoying this book! It was worth every penny! I bought the hardback version and it came in perfect condition. It is very captivating as it has lots of colour's, photos and illustrations. I will definitely be purchasing more DK scientific books from Amazon! Note: The book focuses more on the history of scientific discoveries, but still talks a lot about the subject and explains it very well!
