The best sandals a big guy can get
I am 46, and until a couple of years ago I hated "flip-flops" mostly because of how uncomfortable they feel between your 1st and 2nd toes, and how badly my feet would start to hurt after only half an hour of walking in them. I am also a big guy -- 6'2", 265lbs -- with flat feet. Add to that the bone spurs in my feet and the tendency to get plantar faciitis. Flip-flops, sandals, thongs, slippers -- whatever you call them where you're from -- were definitely not for me. That is, until I happened across these sandals at a local , trendy shoe retailer. These sandals are amazing. They are designed and made by a company which makes, of all things, orthotics. They support my weight and compensate for my flat feet like no other sandal I have ever tried. Over time, they form to your feet, like any good orthotic should, making them so comfortable you forget you're wearing them. And I never even feel the strap between my toes, it is so well designed. These sandals are so comfortable and stable that I wear them constantly throughout the warm seasons. I buy two pair each spring, one for getting dirty working in the garden and one for cruising around the house or walking the shoppes. To me, they are well worth the price. I can even comfortable drive a car with a manual transmission wearing them...something I can't do while wearing any other sandal. Another test is how long can you stand in a pair of sandals before your feet start to hurt...in these, I have not found a maximum yet. In other sandals, it is something between 15 and 30 minutes. I have tried a couple other branded sandals with arch support, but they never got comfortable. So I came back to these. I only hope that they never stop making them.

Spenco vs. Sole
I bought these Spenco flip flops at the same time that I also received a pair of Sole flip flops as a gift. My podiatrist told me that if I want to wear flip flops, I need to spend the money to buy quality ones that have good arch support. (Any other foot health source will tell you the same thing.) Both of these flips are approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association and have great arch support. Also both mold themselves to your foot and are very comfortable. The big difference is that the Spenco gives you more of a barefoot, close-to-the-earth feel, while the Sole has a lot more cushion to it. I'm lucky to have both but the Sole does have more of a "foot pamper" feel while the Spenco feels more "athletic." The other difference I found is that the band that goes between the toes in the Spenco is a standard one, and I found it to take a lot getting used to, while the band in the Sole is sewn together to be more rounded and not rubbing against the insides of my toes (on my pair at least--online Amazon photos show the Sole bands to be the same type as the Spenco). I solved this problem on the Spenco by simply sewing the bands so as to make each one more like a pipe, which made a big difference in terms of foot comfort. The Sole costs about $20 more, according to Amazon prices. If you are concerned about price, you can't go wrong with the Spenco flip flops. If you want a more "bouncy" feel and don't mind spending the extra money, the Soles are a great sandal.

Great recommended for foot relief!
My husband got these. He has narrow feet…the doctor recommended them. He absolutely loves them. A game changer for relief of the discomfort he has had. A nice house shoe!

Comfortable thong sandals with a reasonable degree of arch support
I'm on my fifth or sixth pair of these Spenco sandals. They advertise that they provide better arch support than many others, and I have to agree. I've tried another name brand that wasn't as satisfactory, and I've tried a no-name sandal that was fair but not as satisfactory. I have very flat arches; so arch supporting sandals make sandals a practical footwear alternative for me. Worn shoes or non-arch-supporting sandals give me leg and back problems in fairly short order. The Spencos seem to last for quite a while before the wear starts to make them uncomfortable. Then, it's time for a new pair.

Straps too long.
Shoe is exactly what I was looking for, but don’t buy wide if your feet aren't thick. The width and length were good, but the straps weren’t tight enough to hold them on my feet.

Stylish but still ok for plantar fasciitis...
I am 30 years old, and have been suffering from plantar fasciitis after a half marathon I ran in several years back. Since then I have been suffering through summers with primarily tennis shoes or cowboy boots because sandals just hurt too much. I finally found these Spenco's at a local running store and decided to try them out. They were perfect! I can wear them all day without pain. I bought a second pair just to wear around the house for night/early morning and house chores. They are not high end fashion of course, but they clean easily and go with most of my casual shorts, skirts, and cropped pants. A sensible combination of style and function... and most importantly support! I will be buying the chocolate and blue color for next year.

The item is fake and I will return it. Why Amazon allows fake items to be sold on it's portal.

My husband requires good foot support and has found it in the spenco brand. He wore out his first pair of thongs after 4 years and he tried other less expensive brands with disappointment. The foot bed support spenco offers is like no other and is worth spending a little extra to have happy feet. We both recommend this brand for those that appreciate comfort and durability.
