These are the same studs that they pierce your ears with if you were gunned and what I was looking for. I am one of those who feel naked without earring on and wanted something to wear in the pool and at the gym. I was looking for something inexpensive in case it was ruined or lost at either place, but not totally tacky. I wanted something with safety backs so they would stay on while being active. These fit the bill. They are small, about 4mm in diameter. The backs click on to lock and are very secure. The post is thicker (about 2mm) than a regular earring so it can be a little tight putting them in the first time. The post is pointy, but when the back in locked on, it covers the point so it does not poke you behind the ear. When the back is locked on, it gives about 8mm of post space between the earring and the back, so good for adult size ears. They are very comfortable, I don't even notice I have them on. They are plated, not solid gold, but since you get four pairs for under $20, I decided I can just put them in the recycle bin and open another pair when the gold wears off from the chlorinated pool. I think they would also be good to use as a "place holder" to keep an earring hole from closing during those times when you aren't really into or get too busy to change your earrings every day. They are comfortable enough and sturdy enough to sleep in. The con is that the back is kind of large and tight so it is hard to wash underneath it if you don't take them out before you bathe. (I always thought it was kind of gross when people left their earrings in for long periods of time with cleaning them). I am happy with my purchase and hope they continue to make these.

I wear these all the time, never taking them out, except to clean them. I have older cartilage piercings that get irritated easily. These earrings do not cause any irritation at all, and they have not tarnished.

The gold faded out they made me think it was real gold... however its medicated really well i had no infections or anything no iritation or bruising of the sort despite how sensitve my skin is to these kind of things so im grateful for that... just make sure when you get a piercing you take them out after maybe 2 or three weeks clean them and your ears and put them back in(clean with alcohol)

loooove these things. I have had my conch pierced for some time now. I am allergic to some metals and will break out in a rash where the metal is irritating my skin. I know I'm not allergic to gold so I bought a pack of these. They are a little larger than a standard 3mm stud, but only by a little and I find I like it that way too, little bit of a pop.
