Pretty good printer
So, for awhile now, I've been considering getting a laser printer since inkjet printers have not been kind to me, at least ink wise. I don't print stuff off very often, like once a month at most, so with an inkjet the ink would dry up or whatever by the time I used it again so even after like getting it to work or whatever, I would have to buy a new cartridge. Which, considering how expensive ink is these days, I could easily buy a cheap inkjet printer for $30 which is less than the cost of the ink for some brands and just buy a new printer every time the ink ran out. So, to avoid that, I decided to go with a laser printer. I rarely ever need to print in color. If I do need to print in color, I'll spend the few cents and go to Office Depot or a friend's house, but most of my printing needs are satisfied with black and white prints. (I play D&D so I mostly just need to print off character sheets and basic maps so black and white is all I need) and I knew I wanted to get a Brother it was just a matter of which one. I looked at a few different models and finally decided on this one since it had all the stuff I needed to do. Automatic 2 sided printing, scanning, copying, print from wifi or mobile device. I don't need fax but I definitely needed to at least scan stuff so this is definitely a good middle ground. It's a bit big so you'll have to make sure you have room for it. It's about a foot tall and about as deep as my dresser (which is where I keep it at the moment. I'll probably move it to the closet sooner or later) It prints FAST! I printed out almost 200 pages (double sided) in like half an hour give or take. It's definitely fast, and the quality is amazing! The text is crisp and pristine. Pictures aren't the same quality like on an inkjet printer. They look fine, but that's not what this is meant for. This is meant for office work like documents with maybe a few graphs here and there. It's quiet-ish. It's definitely quieter than some other printer's I've used, but it's not like whisper quiet. Unless everyone in the house is a light sleeper, I don't see why it would wake anyone up. Set up was fairly simple. It took awhile for me since my internet speeds are VERY slow (which doesn't impact the printing) so it took forever to download the software onto my laptop in order to print stuff, but if you have decently fast internet speeds the download shouldn't take too long. After it got downloaded it was only a few clicks away from being set up. But honestly, my friend bought the same one a few years earlier (I didn't know this when I bought it just a fun coincidence) she's still using the toner that came with the printer and she hasn't had to buy more toner once. So yeah, I don't have to worry about buying toner for AWHILE! But seriously, this was the best $100 I've spent. Definitely worth it.

Perfect Office Needs
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) I recently purchased a Brother brand printer, and it has proven to be a reliable workhorse with a few minor quirks. Here's my detailed review: Setup & Connectivity: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) The initial setup and Wi-Fi connectivity proved to be a bit challenging. Unlike some other printers that come with detailed instructions, the Brother printer's setup process felt less intuitive. Connecting it to Wi-Fi took a few attempts and required a bit of patience. It would be immensely helpful if the setup process were more user-friendly. Cable Not Included: ★★★★☆ (4/5) One notable drawback was the absence of a USB cable in the box. While many printers come with a USB cable for wired setup, this one didn't include one. This could be an inconvenience for users who prefer a wired connection or don't have a spare cable on hand. However, this is a minor issue as most setups nowadays are wireless. Performance & Print Quality: ★★★★★ (5/5) Once I had the printer up and running, it performed admirably. Printing quality was excellent, with sharp text and vibrant colors for photos. It handled various paper sizes and types with ease, making it suitable for both everyday document printing and occasional photo printing. Speed & Efficiency: ★★★★★ (5/5) The Brother printer proved to be impressively fast, particularly for its price range. It spat out pages with impressive speed and efficiency, which is a huge plus for busy households or small offices where time is of the essence. Reliability & Durability: ★★★★★ (5/5) Reliability is where this Brother printer truly shines. It consistently delivered crisp prints without paper jams or other hiccups. The build quality feels solid, suggesting that it should hold up well over time, making it a long-term investment. Additional Features: ★★★★☆ (4/5) The printer comes with a range of useful features, such as automatic duplex printing, which helps save on paper costs. It also has mobile printing capabilities, allowing you to print from your smartphone or tablet. However, some users might miss the absence of a touch screen or a more intuitive control panel. Value for Money: ★★★★☆ (4/5) Despite the initial setup challenges and the missing USB cable, the Brother brand printer offers excellent value for its price. Its performance, reliability, and print quality make it a strong contender in the market. In conclusion, the Brother brand printer is a dependable workhorse that excels in performance, reliability, and print quality. While the setup process could be more user-friendly, and the absence of a USB cable was a minor inconvenience, these issues can be overcome with a bit of patience and an extra cable purchase. Once set up, this printer delivers exceptional results, making it a worthwhile investment for home or small office printing needs. It would have been my fault to setup the wifi connect so I'm giving 5 stars overall.

EXCELLENT PRINTER SO FAR
This is my second Brother printer. I bought the first because it was inexpensive. It lasted about 5 years without difficulty. I upgraded to this model because it includes a scanner while maintaining a small footprint. Both printers provide consistent, very clear text. There is the option to purchase larger cartridges so that less changing is necessary. There is a bit of a learning curve with this model. The setup was automatic, but I then had to learn how to set different functions by programing characters one by one into the display. While, I've grown used to this, it, the process, nevertheless, still seems tedious. I had to contact customer service early in my experience with the printer when I lost my network connection. I was happily surprised to reach a technician in the evening. She was very patient and helpful. While I seldom invest in extended warranties, I routinely do so with printers. Of all the electronics I own, printers have created the most angst!

Solid printer, great value!
Because the whole world is working from home I decided I finally needed a printer/scanner combo because I couldn't print things at the office anymore. I live in a small apartment so definitely needed to save space. This meant I needed to get the printer and scanner to be the same machine. I knew I wanted a laser printer because let's face it, inkjet printers are a scam. They barely print any pages per cartridge and each cartridge costs more than the printer itself! Also, if you barely use it the ink dries up! This is why I went with a laser printer. Pros - * Super easy set up over WiFi. Plugged in the printer, setup the WiFi on the device and my Macbook Pro automatically found it. Was printing seconds later. * Wireless printing. Who wants to deal with wires anymore? * High page capacity for its size. * Physical buttons to easily scan. * Duplex printing! This is super useful to save paper and I'm actually shocked you can get it at it's price point. Cons - * It's kinda large I feel. I feel that the designers could have saved space. I keep this thing in a closet so any space I can reclaim is super useful to me. * The scanning app for OS X isn't that intuitive and has a learning curve. Not a huge downside but still annoying. Honestly if this was a bit smaller I'd have given it 5 stars but it still gets a solid 4.

Good printer. Here's hoping.
I gambled buying this as my second Brother printer. The first still printed very well but had a paper jam problem. The paper did not actually jam. Instead, it appeared that a sensor malfunctioned that indicated the paper had not cleared the machine as fast as it should. So, I could only print one or 2 sheets before it would jam and then it had to be rested for a while before doing 1 or 2 more. The cost of repair was as much, or more, than a new printer. So, I bought this one, also without an automatic paper feeder, because this is a home machine with fairly light duty. After its arrival, un-boxing it was as expected and its setup was fairly easy. I did have to go through the wireless connection routine a couple of times before it connected but I've had much worse experiences with other devices. So, this was very acceptable. And like my previous Brother printer this one prints very nicely and quickly. I often use the scan feature which performs well and is a convenience. This model does not have a fax feature, but these days most people/organizations who ask for one will accept an email. For those who don't, I use a free online service. But that's a rarity. The real test of this Brother printer will be its longevity. At less than $100, considering its ease of use and very good quality of printing, thus 5 stars for now, it doesn't have to out live me! {Update} It's now a year later with a new third party toner cartridge and this printer is still very good at everything it does.

Easy Peasy Set up with Apple Products
I'm glad I disregarded some of the negative reviews regarding difficulty with set up. I purchased this printer to replace an Epson inkjet printer after it refused to print a black & white page because the color ink was out. Sick of being held hostage by a printer manufacturer. In any event, I saved the USB cable from the old printer in hopes of using it with the new Brother Laserjet. Voila, it fit! After unpacking the new printer and removing all of the safety tape, I plugged the printer in to my Mac mini, went to the Brother web site for my printer model, and downloaded and installed the firmware. Next I downloaded and installed the Wireless set up wizard. I was immediately able to print using the cable connected to myMac mini. I could remove the cable, but I don't like using wireless if I don't need to. Next, I tried air printing from my iPhone. Even though my iPhone is connected to a 5G band for my dual band router, and the printer is connected to the 2.4Ghz band, the printer worked without a hitch. Finally, I tried air printing from an iPad. Again, no problems. Although I haven't done any large print jobs and won't be printing photos, I am happy with the quality and my choice. The best moment was tossing my inkjet printer in the garbage.

5 STAR Engineering | Hassle Free | Fast | Efficient Ink
Having come from the DREADFUL line of canon and other brand printers with at times up to 80% rate of paper jam instances that couldn't even be fixed, rapidly depleting ink cartridges and slow inferior performance, I was super pleased with Brother. I know the features below are to be expected from any printer, you will be pressed to find models that actually do the basics without hassles. PROS > Fast. Hassale free wireless and wired connection. Set it up once and you will never be promoted with any errors or issues again. > Efficient Ink usage. I am still using the cartridge that came with the unit. All technology takes some toll on the environment but a solution that uses less ink = less pressure on earth resources. The longevity and reliability of the product is a big plus. Finding a model that is not gone be disposable is a rarity these days. Ink price is also very economical. > Great performance. Prints are clear, no smudges or blurred ghost printing. > 100% compatibility with label sheets and stickers of various brand and non-brands. None will jam. > 0 instance of paper jam or clogs. > Easy to understand and open access to the internal chambers. > Wide compatibility with a range of a paper brands. Even though it says you are suppose to stick with approved papers, even if you don't it still does what it is suppose to. > Compact size.

EDITED 01-22-1019 Stay away, especially if living outside of the US or Brother phone support reach
Edited 01-22-2019. I'm reviewing to 1 star because, even though after the difficulties setting it up as a network printer for a first PC on your local network ( as compared to an HP or Epson printer/scanner) it works nicely, setting it up for additional Windows PCs without messing up the networking part is almost impossible. Unlike HP or Epson wireless printers, which once the printer is installed for the first time and it is defined on your LAN (router) you can add the device drivers & software on additional Windows PCs (have not tried MACs) without having to go through the network setup for the printer again), the installation of drivers & software on additional Windows PCs for this Brother device forces you to go through the network settings again and, in my case, it has invariably messed up the previous network installation, leaving the printer as not present or disconnected for the first PC. Furthermore, documentation from Brother is, in my opinion, very poor and when you go through the provided steps and request assistance on line, it loops you to the same steps of the documentation that you already performed during the installation, or ask you to check your network settings on router, etc. Requesting help by email or chat is about the same, and in both cases they ended up telling me that they could help by phone and to schedule a date for a call, which if you live outside the US or from where Brother support personnel works from, won't happen (unlike Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, and other large corporations, that have, multi language, multi regional call centers). Recommendation: Stay away, especially if living outside of the U.S. or where Brother has phone support, because you are going to need for installing the drivers and software on additional PCs. Or, better yet, stick to HP or EPSON (or other brand which with you have good experience). =========================================================================================== Printer arrived before estimated delivery date (DHL) and both, box and printer looked perfect no visible damage. Its a big larger than I imagine but, considering that I'm replacing a faulty HP LaserJet P1102W and an Epson XP-201 AIO (inkjet printer + scanner) I really ended up saving some space (vertically and horizontally). It wasn't as easy setting it up as my previous HP and Epson, but nothing too hard either. I shared it thru my Home Office Network with wired and wireless Windows PCs (desktops and laptops) and Apple IOS mobile devices (iPhones and iPads). So, to set it up I connected an USB cable between one PC and the printer installed the software and set it up for Wi-Fi sharing, after which I unplugged the USB cable from PC and Printer an that was it, the printer is up and running as part of our Home Office network. I have already tested it printing and Scanning (I do not like the Scan application as much as Epson's, but I guess it has to do with getting used to it) form Windows PC (wired to same home Network) and from IOS (need to download and install Brother's iPrint&Scan from the App Store for that) I left on for a good 4 hours allowing it to go to standby (energy saving) and then print (from Adobe and Office) and scan and it resumed fast enough without any problems. So far, so good! its feels like a robust printer and not as almost a toy like some others in the same prince range.
