Star Black Petrol Windproof Lighter

It isn't a Zippo. It may look like one, but it isn't one. It doesn't cost as much as a Zippo, and it isn't as windproof as a Zippo. Mine was manufactured by a company identifying itself as Jiantai, and they haven't done a bad job. I put fuel in, it lit first time. Like my Zippo then. My Zippo is now 13 years old and has had some use. I wanted a backup for when I go camping, so bought this.The cam sometimes sticks a little, but that doesn't stop the case from closing. Looking more closely, and doing a side by side comparison, the dimensions are slightly different. The flint wheel centre pins look similar, with the Zippo appearing a little more solid.The cam hinge pins and the hinges look identical. The hinges and mounting to the bodies look very similar.Overall, the construction of mine is really rather good. For the money, it is very good indeed. The difference in windproofing was done using the tried and tested 'try to blow the flame out'. There wasn't that much difference.BTW, use Zippo fuel. There is a difference in performance on my genuine Zippo twixt Zippo fuel and Perma. With Zippo fuel and flints, it is a first time, every time light. With Zippo fuel and Swan flints, first, second or third strike. With Perma fluid, second, third or fourth try no matter what the flint is. The flint as supplied with the copy lighter makes a veritable firework of sparks, just like a Zippo flint.Overall, happy. Two lighters will take up less space than a lighter and fuel, and I can't abide gas lighters.Edit:-Just ordered a spare, and this time its branded as 'Dora'. Not that it makes any difference really as it is still a fairly well made, good looking lighter. Slightly different dimensions again, but still fits in the little 'Zippo' pocket on my jeans just fine. You really can't moan for the price.

When i bought this lighter i was looking for a everyday lighter that is different from the usual gas lighters and i won't feel bad about if lost. It's been a couple of months since i got mine and so far it works perfectly. The price is great, quality is good, and after many falls on the ground there are only few scratches. The first thing i did when i received mine was to change the flint and wick as suggested by some other customers. Like everything that runs on petrol this lighter is not very economical, but then again if you don't want to deal with that you wouldn't be looking for a petrol lighter. If you are looking for a lighter that is different from your gas lighter, cheap and something to play with while smoking this might be the one for you. If you're looking for something unique and classy to make you feel special, that will rise an eyebrow when taken out of your pocket, don't fool yourself and just buy a Zippo, this product is not meant for such purpose.

Works extremely well lights first time usually , but i am dissapointed that it is not a Star brand lighter it has no name on the bottom and it does not come in a tin or box just in a bag. However it does what it is meant to and for £2.40 you cant go wrong , but it should not be advertised as star or have pictures with a tin....

Received this product the other day, gutted to find out I had to fill it up with my own Zippo fluid but then that should have been obvious from the start (probably to do with health and safety or something, not deducting any stars from the product for this).Upon filling with genuine Zippo fuel today, it works perfectly well. Upon inspecting the inside of the black metal casing, I found a strange brown rust, product loses a star on account of this and I'm seriously hoping it does not eat through the silver metal and causing an explosion or something (probably just paranoid, there doesn't seem to be any rust of any kind that has found its way onto the silver metal).With this in mind then it's a great product at a great price and I'm happy with it, does what I want and seems to does well. I will update this review upon the lighters demise, should I not lose it or put it out of service in favour of a new lighter before then.Definitely worth saving the money a genuine Zippo would set you back by if you ask me!

This is excellent value for money! First time, first light. Compared it to a Zippo, very similar. Looks A LOT better in real life than in the grainy promotional picture. It has a smooth, non-metallic (not shiny)texture. I recommend buying this with Ronson fluid, cheaper than Zippo fluid. Definitely worth it as it is a tenth of the price as a genuine Zippo.However, this is my first day of having it so I cannot comment on reliability. I assume it will break pretty fast but I can't complain at £1.50. Seems great quality so far though so maybe it's going to be more reliable than I assume. What is there to go wrong?It looks so much better in real life than in the promotional photograph, I must stress this point.

First off, I have to say the lighter is a good product, lights first time everytime. I would have to give it five stars, EXCEPT...it is not what the title says. This lighter (or at least the two that I recieved) is not made by "star." It is infact made by "kantai" whom I have never heard of! Star make very good lighters, and apparently, so do kantai. I have no problem with the lighter. I think it's great. But it is not what the title says it is, so I can only give it 1 star.

Well i left this product review for a few months because i have brought a few cheaper petrol lighters and they fizzle out in a week or 2 but this one has kept going and been reliable to this day. i have had it about 6 months now and i would not swap this one for the world! The quality ain't that great ... but the damn thing works every time and that is what a product you buy should do. So if you want an expensive lighter and then maybe on your nights out you will be looking to cadge a light because your's has stopped working ha ha! Or buy this one and never have to bother the hairy man standing by the bush ever again lol! Product rating 10/10
