Can someone please explain why echium oil is better than flaxseed, which I currently take. What is the omega 3 content? I'm not strictly veg.

In response to your question: Vegetarians, vegans and people who don't consume oily fish often take flaxseed oil to source omega-3 fats, but these are not the same as EPA and DHA long-chain omega-3s that are found in fish. For plant sources of short-chain omega-3s to be effective, they must be converted by the body. Raising EPA and DHA levels is important for brain function, regulating inflammation and supporting heart health. Echium seed oil contains a superior profile of important fats and generates 60% more long-chain omega-3s in the body than flaxseed oil. This is because echium seed oil is one of the only plant oils that contains stearidonic acid (SDA), of which about 20-25 % converts to EPA, compared with less than 8% of ALA in flaxseed oil. Echium actually contains both ALA and SDA, so these two fats work together to raise EPA levels in the body more effectively. Echium also contains the `good fat' GLA, which is anti-inflammatory, whereas flaxseed does not contain GLA.

Hope it helps I have been taking them for over a year now and wouldn't be without them.echium seed oil naturally contains a perfect balance of omega-3, -6 and -9. Echium seed oil is considered to be anti-inflammatory as it contains twice as much omega-3 compared to the omega-6 and omega-9 content, and can therefore help to balance the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio.flaxseed oil are the richest source of the short-chain omega-3 fatty acid ALA; however, this type of short-chain omega-3 fatty acid then has to be converted to the omega-3 which is found directly in echium seeds. As the conversion for linseeds is limited compared to echium seeds, consumption needs to be very high to achieve the anti-inflammatory effects. Although linseed oil is not the best plant-sourced oil to rely on to reduce inflammation in the body, ground linseeds are a great source of fibre, vitamins & minerals and lignans.
