Brilliant little unit
So much of a full size router features built into a tiny little box. Easy to set up, almost but not quite plug and play, a good app to interface with it and does everything you could want. You do need to add a 3G/4G wifi dongle to it (or ethernet cable to connect to some other internet connection) and there lies the problem. You'll quickly discover that not only do TP-link themselves not make a 4G dongle which is what you'll need as all networks will be switching off their 3G networks very soon, but that almost no one else does either. I can't really recommend a dongle here as this is a review of this router only, but you need to make certain that the one you buy has an 's' suffix indicating that it works in serial mode as a modem, and does not have its own built-in router functions. Do that and you'll get a nice little portable internet package without needed a laptop.

Works
Used on Rasperry pi 4 to set up small standalone network. works well ,reasonable range,. Also used as a repeater for back garden using a ethernet cable back to TalkTalk hub . power by usb hub , does the job. Have not tried the sim option.

Using with BT Huawei MiFi to get internet when fibre down.
TP-Link TL-MR3020 V3 Portable 3G/4G Wireless N Router I use this when my BT fibre goes down and I use it to extend the Huawei Mifi that BT send out to provide 4G whilst the fibre is down. It took me ages to work out how to do this - so putting it here incase it helps others. There may be better or easier ways but I couldn't find them. This solution means I can a) use many wifi devices b) my house has ethernet cables and hubs running rooms away, and these now link to the TP and therefore get internet - which I couldn't do just with the BT huawei. When my fibre goes down, BT send out a Huawei Mifi E5785 with a 4G sim. But it has no ethernet port and can only connect 10 wifi devices - and has a short range so doesn't cover the whole house. I used this TP-Link TL-MR3020 V3 Portable 3G/4G Wireless N Router to link to the MIfi and then plug ethernet into the TP Link so that I can get internet in other rooms. 1. There is a switch on the TP link to choose 4G or AP. Choose AP 2. Plug the TP link in and wait for Wifi signal 3. On a PC , use your network settings to link to the TP (like you do when choosing a wifi connection) 4. Then type tplinkwifi.net in your pc browser and this takes you to a TP set up screen. 5. The default TP user and pw is admin admin 6. Set up as a REPEATER 7. Then (still in the tp setup screen) scan for the Huawei Mifi and join it and give it the Huawei pw. 8. This should now mean that any wifi devices can now join the TP and get internet. 9. Then plug ethernet cable into the TP and anything on the end of the ethernet (a hub or laptop) will now have internet.

Poor performance
I’ve connected to a router which has at least 140mbps. Easy to set up and Wi-Fi shows up quickly, but I’m sitting 3 metres away, in the same room, & pictures won’t load on my phone and some sites wouldn’t load at all. I had to disconnect wifi to get my phone 4G back in order access my Amazon account and to leave this review. Poor performance, next to useless.

A good little router but no PSU
This item works well because I have a previous one that I use for three or four years with no issues but then it stopped working so I bought this one to replace it. This is almost identical to the one I had before and once again it was fairly straightforward to set up, although I do still need to work out how to change the password which which shouldn’t take long. One issue, though, there was no power supply unit in the box, which was a major problem. Fortunately, because I had one from before I use the power supply unit from the previous one I had . if I didn’t have this I would’ve been stuck.

Great little gadget to share captive portal
Bought this to allow screenless devices such as echo dot to use captive portals which require a form to be completed. Whilst I haven't yet used it for that specific purpose I have successfully and easily shared non-captive portal connections and can't see a reason why it wouldn't do what I want when it comes to it. The thing is tiny, easy to use and also provides parental controls, useful for traveling kids. I can connect and share my android phone to it using usb and WiFi and I can also charge my phone off the usb connection. I have a mikrotik device too but could never get that setup, in comparison the tplink is a doddle.

Brilliant
Purchased this as I wanted to route a 3g Dongle via Ethernet to be the internet supply for a cheap MW6-3 mesh wifi We are moving away soon and have cancelled our home broadband so wanted to use the already owned 3g dongle but use the mesh network. plugged in the dongle, switch left to 3g, didn’t need to configure anything Ethernet cable plugged to Mesh master device Done and works really well not the strongest 4g signal where we are but located in garage best signal and it works a treat.
