Essential Help for Your Nerves : Weekes, Dr. Claire: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Helped me through a difficult time - Of all the self help books this helped me the most. The important thing is that the author actually experienced anxiety and panic attacks herself and she really knows how you are feeling right now. Other books just constantly remind you that your bad thoughts are ridiculous and you should get rid of them. Duh, I know my thoughts are irrational, you don't have to tell me that. But this book is different. You feel the empathy, you feel that this book could only have been written by someone who actually experienced the same thing as you, and if she (and her patients) could recover, then so can you. Acceptance and letting time pass are probably the most important. They are very difficult to do in the beginning, but as you practice you will very slowly start to understand that the symptoms are insignificant. It takes time, really. This book helped me through a difficult time, and I'm sure it will help you, too. Review: This Lady was a Saint! - I first came across Dr Weekes about 15 years ago when I bought her book Self Help for your Nerves. It became my bible and helped me through some rough times. I was diagnosed with anxiety about 20 years ago and been offered an endless supply of horrible drugs and after waiting almost a year on a waiting list several times have had experience of NHS First Steps which I wasnt impressed with. I've also spent a fortune on private counselling and any remedy I can lay my hands on. I've kept going back to that book and feel relief every time I read it. However for various reasons my anxiety has become chronic over the last 12 months, it's been awful. The mental and physical symptoms are frightening and you can see no way out. Recently I bought this book by Dr Weekes and also downloaded two of her audio sessions. Its early days but today when I woke with that sick, dread, scared feeling I was able to get out of bed and slowly but surely go about my morning. I'm actually proud of myself. I've a long way to go but this book has done more for me in a week than tears of therapy. For any anxiety sufferer please read and learn about sensitized nerves, it will open your eyes to why you feel so ill. Once you understand it will change your life. I'm not going mad, I'm not dying of a horrible disease, I have anxiety. It's not pleasant and it can make you feel awful but you can help yourself. I'd highly recommend the audios too as I fall asleep listening to this wonderful lady every night. Shes talking to me and she understands like no other therapist I've ever been to. Sadly shes no longer with us and some of it may sound a little dated but for me it works.

This Lady was a Saint!
I first came across Dr Weekes about 15 years ago when I bought her book Self Help for your Nerves. It became my bible and helped me through some rough times. Still good, but dated.
I read these books many years ago when I was having a bad time, and I felt they were very good. 20 years on they have not been updated or revised in any way, and some of the advice is totally out of date. It is still a useful aid for help with nervous exhaustion, but some of the examples need to be updated into the 21st century.

You can regain your life from the most extreme nervous anxiety
It is absolutely essential help for your nerves, having read previous books by Ms Weekes, this builds on and provides further guidance on stress, anxiety, panic attacks, and the body’s physiological response, to stress ie release of adrenaline causes the symptoms, that plague so many people which only exacerbate the physiological response & perpetute the resulting fear. Book include case studies, but I personally found the chapters dealing with symptoms & how they relate to an over sensitisation of the body’s response to stress. Ms Weekes provides an essential regime to overcome the body’s response to stress and subsequent fear, to find out what that is you must read the book. It’s transformed my life, without it nervous breakdown was on the horizon if not already day. It’s not an over night quick fix & you need to work with Ms Weekes, but cure is guaranteed, although you are warned relapse is a distinct possibility, but Ms Weekes prepare you for that as well, letting time pass is an essential component of Ms Weekes therapeutic regime. A must buy for all sufferers of stress and anxiety irrespective of the cause

Help yourself to feel well again
I am about half-way through this book and have already seen positive changes by applying Dr Weekes teachings. I would recommend this book to anyone who suffers from panic attacks or agoraphobia, or like me had that feeling of being overwhelmed by life in general. Recent illness left me with what Dr Weekes describes as extreme sensitisation and life had become very difficult, because a lot depends on me being able to get on with things. Face, Accept, Float and Let Time Pass. This is what she advises and this is what I am trying to do. I believe she was a very wise woman. As an aside it has been refreshing to read the way she puts things, she is so polite and old-fashioned. I wish she was still around but instead I'll send her a spiritual hug for the help she has given me. I bought another copy for someone else, I do hope that it helps him too. I truly believe it can if he tries her teachings.

I saw myself in almost every page of this book. It did what therapy couldn't. This woman was way ahead of her time. So many books are almost a plagiarism of her work, and she is not even mentioned... What a great woman.

These books were first available in the 1980's and have helped thousands recover from nervous illness (which today is mainly identified as OCD). Since OCD can have a serious impact on our lives, her help and guidance in this area has been a life saver for many. This book is a combination of two of her best books, although they are all great.

This book is worth the time and money to invest in. If you are experiencing anxiety or know someone who is and needs to understand the illness, this is down to earth, no nonsense reading based on medical science and empirical results. Dr Claire Weeks is world renown and has helped countless sufferers and their families to understand "fear of fear". This book will help the reader immensely and you may even experience that ah-ha moment of realization that you can finally grasp/understand something the medical professionals you may be dealing have not the capacity to do.

Dr. Claire weekes was ahead of her times about anxiety and stress. Her first book "hope and help for your nerves" is considered as Bible by many people who had anxiety and stress issues(however severe it is). I request people to read that book before this one to understand the basic techniques though this one covers most of it(consider it as an advanced version ).
