Superfish Waterfall Filter 44cm

Pros and cons. First the Pro. I've already got an external canister filter with multiple layers of mechanical and bio filteration so didn't actually need more filtration - but the output from my filter is something like 6000 ltrs an hour so caused too much splash. I just wanted something wide to hang over the edge of the pond to feed the water back in without making too much of a splash. This does exactly that. It comes with big, fat, course and fine foam filter pads and some really nice bio balls - plastic cage balls containing lots of small ceramic balls. This would probably work as quite a good filter on it's own but I didn't use any of that filter media. I chopped it up and used it in other filters. That foam and balls would have cost a few quid if I'd bought them elsewhere on their own :) So, instead of the foam etc I put large pebbles into the bottom this box and then progressively smaller pebbles and gravel to fill it up. Then planted some plants in it. So water coming from my canister filter is fed into the bottom of this box - it perculates up through the gravel and plant roots and flows gently over the wide lip of the box into the pond without hardly a splash. There's a 'flange' for securely attaching a pond liner but I chopped that off as well - I don't have a liner and the flange is quite big so prevented me burying the box so that the lip rests close to the rim of the pond. Now the cons. In the bottom of the box is the 'knock out' panel for making the hole to attach the pipe. I knocked and knocked but it wouldn't budge. I was afraid if I knocked any harder I'd crack the side of the box. In the end I drilled it out. So, that knock out panel at least in my box, was not knock out. There's actually two of the knockout panels so you can choose which side to plumb in - so, in a way, I'm now happy that the knock outs are pretty sturdy and refuse to be tapped out accidentally - wouldn't be nice if the other one just popped out on its ow - so maybe this is a Pro rather than a con. Once the knock out panel was out you can screw in the pipe connector. The box is threaded to take the connector but the connector is a lot smaller than the threaded hole in the box so fits quite loose. It took many MANY wraps of PTF tape to make it seal but I was just nervous about the amount of ptf tape in there. I scrapped that PTF and wrapped about 2 foot of insulation tape around the connector and screwed that in nice and tight. any more cons? er. No. None that I can think of.

Looks and sounds good on the pond.

Warning! If your pond is a little grubby, the foams do their job and soon clog up, making the water spill out all around! Caused my pond liner to float!! Remedied by sitting the unit in a larger “catchment” bowl of extra liner so that any overspill was directed back into the pond, not into the garden. Works fine and is a nice effect, but allow for overflows!!!

Great water sound from waterfall, extra Bio filter that works really well, brilliant item adding that little extra touch to your pond.

It's a filter waterfall. Would be better if the intake was on the back. It works though.

Very easy to set up but did leak a bit at the inlet… silicone sorted the problem (I would have used some anyway as a precaution. Still tinkering to get it completely level but so far so good.

I read all of the reviews to ensure that this waterfall would work for me and tbh it does a great job of having various sponges etc acting as an extra filter to my pump. Only improvement would be to have more of a choice as to what size hose to attach (currently has only two options 25 or 38). Plus I took the advice of the reviewers to drill out the side hole to screw in the hose attachment, but even after screwing it up as far as possible there's still a constant drip, therefor not ideal but I have created a way so that the lost water is returned directly back to the pond so it doesn't matter too much .
