DANGEROUS: DO NOT USE
Unsubstantiated Claims: Manufacturers often claim the drops adjust melanin levels in the iris, but there is no scientific evidence to support this. Ingredients lists are often vague or contain common chemicals that have no effect on eye color. Unregulated Manufacturing: Products made in non-licensed or unregulated facilities are highly susceptible to contamination with dangerous bacteria, fungi, or other pathogens, which can lead to severe eye infections. Potential Health Risks Using these unregulated drops can lead to a range of painful and vision-threatening complications: Eye Infections: Contaminated products can cause dangerous and potentially life-threatening infections, such as those linked to virulent bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa in recalled over-the-counter drops. Inflammation (Uveitis): The chemicals in the drops can cause severe inflammation of the iris and other parts of the eye, which can lead to pain, blurry vision, and is a leading cause of blindness in the U.S.. Increased Eye Pressure (Glaucoma): Damage to the eye's drainage system caused by the drops or displaced pigment could lead to a buildup of pressure inside the eye, damaging the optic nerve and causing glaucoma. Corneal Damage: Chemicals or contaminants can damage the delicate cornea (the clear front surface of the eye), potentially leading to scarring and permanent vision impairment or loss. Light Sensitivity: Destruction of pigmented cells could lead to chronic light sensitivity (photophobia) and reduce the retina's natural protection from harmful UV radiation.
