Brilliant.
As a first time tripod user and a total amateur when it comes to photography, I wanted a tripod that would make my product photography easier and less shaky than holding the camera myself. This has proven to be terrific value for money and has helped improve my photos enormously. There are loads of features that make adjusting the height/angle of the camera really easy, that, once locked in, holds very firmly too. The locking mechanism for the camera on the base feels really sturdy, and I feel very confident using it that my camera is safe. None of the locking mechanisms are overly complicated and the whole set up process feels very intuitive. Has a nice weight to it, but isn't too heavy, comes in a nice case and packs away quickly. I don't have much to compare with, but for a beginner this has been absolutely brilliant and excellent value for money.

Quality for price
For the price this product is probably unbeatable on quality. I use it with my Canon SX50 HS as a quick and cheap tripod. It can go very tall and very short and seems quite strong for its light weight body. If you use it correctly and tighten all the bits up; it's quite steady also. Not as steady as a £100 tripod; but steady enough for some good shots. I've used this product to take a 15 sec exposure picture of night sky @ ISO 80 and have acceptable results if I use a 2 second self timer to make sure body is steady. Quick release base! on a tripod this cheap and steady; I love this base! Negative point: the spirit level's are utter pants. Don't rely on them. The 360 degree one is just not at all working on mine and the horizontal one seems to be a bit off. My Canon SX50 has built in on screen level so doesn't bother me that much but has lost a star because its such a cheap thing to get wrong. It has 2 levels and both on mine are off or not working. 1 star for strength, 1 star for steadiness, 1 star for price, 1 star for weight, 1 star for overall satisfaction, -1 star for slight defects.

Sturdy and Practical
I wasn't expecting much from this tripod based on the price, I just needed something to take a few family pictures with. However as soon as I opened the carrying case (which is a very nice addition) and felt the tripod I immediately noticed the high quality build. It looks plastic and weak in the Amazon picture which is why I was so shocked. The body is made of sturdy metal but at the same time it is quite lightweight. The head can be detached with a simple release lock so you can remove your camera from the tripod and shoot by hand within seconds. It had no trouble handling a 70-300mm lens which I was afraid of, however if you have a heavy lens you can always put extra weights with the provided hood for extra stability. Adjusting the angle and height is extremely easy to do which is very important when needing to set up a quick shot. Pros: - Quality build - Free carrying case - Easy release latch - Extra weight hook - Cheap! Cons: - May have some trouble handling really heavy lenses without the need of weights Conclusion: An extremely affordable tripod made of quality material, I expect it to last a long time. Recommended.

A steal at this price!
My very first tripod arrived today and I'm all agog! Ever since I flew from India last year, the skies have been a bit of a disappointment. Gone are the crystal-clear tropical skies and welcome to a perennial shroud that has rendered my astronomical refractor vestigial. Still, I was nursing a hope that the clouds could be somehow wished away and then my Galileoscope would help me peer into the larger satellites of Jupiter or the magnificent rings of Saturn. The arrival of my tripod now makes me fully equipped for a night of bliss! My calendar shows me the phases of the moon and weather forecast. My RSS reader tells what to expect in the night sky, Stellarium twins the sky on my computer, my iPod stocks Miles Davis and Liszt to accompany me in my heavenly solitude and my wife stuffs the wardrobe with clothes to keep me toasted in the English chill. I must be living a charmed life! The Hama Star 63 is really tall, it's actually taller than me when fully extended - vital when you're using a refractor at awkward angles. In fact, the height-advantage might even make the star diagonal dispensable in some cases. I generally wouldn't prefer using the diagonal because of its lateral inversion property. It took me all of 20 minutes to fully understand the functionality of this tripod and test it with my wife's Sony. It looks sturdy, feels reasonably lightweight and the movement offers no unpleasant jerks. I've read some reviews saying it isn't really a heavy-duty stand, a claim I couldn't possibly repudiate this early. However, I'm reasonably sure I won't ever need to mount an elephant atop the tripod either. A few telescopes, some cameras, maybe a pair of binoculars someday and that's about it. Apart from the refractor, our camera is expected to take a joy ride perched atop the Hama Star 63 too. In fact, this may well become its main line of duty, what with the constantly overcast skies. No more asking strangers to click me & my wife together. No more solitary pics when we're arm in arm. Now if only I could vacuum the clouds above!
