Reciprotools Rasp Rattail Wood File Gray, Small

Reciprotools has created a way to harness the power of a reciprocating saw for more than just its primary role. A unique Universal Adapter allows the saw to file, clean, and scrub. The adapter is well-built, heavy, and sturdy. Tools attach firmly via a hex shank. The line includes 2 metal files (Half-Round & Rat Tail), 2 wood tools (Flat Rasp & Rat=Tail), 3 Brushes (2 Stainless Steel & 1 Nylon), a Cleaning Brush and a Cleaning Pad. Unfortunately, Reciprotool was aquired in 09/11 by Jore Corporation. The full line of these tools is difficult to find at the moment.

NOT sure how to use it but it helped when making cope cuts on baseboard. Hex tang did not want to fit into my Makita cordless w/ hex drive but did fit into the extension. In cutting coped joints, start w/ 45deg cut and highlight w/ dark pencil. Cut along length w/ jig saw till you almost touch pencil line. back cut the usual 5deg if possible and use highest sped on jig saw for smoothist cut. Finish the cope w/ this tool and the similar Reciptool, RCT-RTM_10.

Had to enlarge a 1" hole in 3/4" Al. Worked very well, did not gum up. Was 10X faster than the 1st I did by hand...

So wildly off-center that it's more like trying to beat the surface instead of rasp it - probably 1/8" off at the end of the rasp. Really disappointing. Since other reviewers here aren't complaining about this, maybe it's just poor quality control and I got a bad one, but that's still something to beware of. If you look at the picture and read the description carefully, you can extrapolate the approximate actual size of this, but don't go by the 8" length listed in the product dimensions - that refers to the package, not the rasp. It's more like just over 5".

The clip that holds the file in place is weak and breaks easily.

I don't mind rating the product but hate your stupid requirement of 16 words or more. It's just a rasp!

Great addition to tool kit if you have a reciprocating saw and adapter.

Review for people who have fragrance sensitivities. At first i thought only the packaging had fragrance on it, but the file itself has a strong "dryer sheet" fragrance to it. Tried cleaning it with alcohol which didn't help much. Not sure why a tool would have fragrance on it, the manufacturer needs to do better.
