Halt! Dog Repellent, 1.5 oz, Aerosol Review: Great Self-defense Tool for Cyclists - Recently I’ve gotten into biking the backroads around my neighborhood, but there is a large abundance of loose dogs that try to bark and chase you as you ride by their territory. I bought this as a self defense counter-measure and it has worked perfectly. The first dog I had to spray immediately stopped their pursuit and ran back home. This 1.5 oz version fits well in my hands and is super easy to aim and shoot, and it has a range of about 8 feet. I also like how it doesn’t leave lasting effects on the dogs as I’m not looking to permanently hurt any pets, simply ward off. With its plastic clip, it’s fits perfectly on the front pocket of my biking jersey. Overall, I highly recommend this dog spray. Review: Saved us several times - I was issued this product the first time through work. Had to use it when a dog tried to attack me and it worked with just a tiny squirt. He came back for a second squirt within about 2 minutes so it’s best for giving you time to escape. It made me a believer though. I used it when I was delivering packages a few times too. I now drive a semi and bring my dog with me. I noticed some drivers are overconfident in their voice control and have their dogs off leash at truck stops so I started carrying it again. Today it saved my dog and maybe me too. Three fully grown bullies were tethered together and coming for us h#ll for leather. I had bullies before so I knew it wasn’t to play. Their owner was running behind them but too far away. I pulled this spray off my lanyard and sprayed the lead dog full in the face. He kept coming so I hit him again from the side as he lunged to bite my dog. He veered off then the second and third ones came in and I sprayed them too. I was praying it would work because I know how determined bullies can be. All three were kind of dazed and their owner arrived to grab their tether. The lead dog who got the most direct spray was rubbing his face in the grass. I explained to him it was just pepper spray and we got the heck out of there. I’m so thankful I had the spray with me! My poor Ella is not a fighter and would have been seriously injured or killed by three dogs attacking her. Get this spray and carry it with you every single time you’re out walking. Worked well for me
I'm an avid cyclist. I've often been chased by dogs but never had any real problems until last year. I was attacked by two dogs. One leapt into the air and caught the back of my thigh. I called 911 for help and a sheriff's deputy came but couldn't really do anything since I was riding in a rural area. He also couldn't find the dogs. After that I've started carrying Halt in my jersey on rural rides. I hadn't had a chance to really test it until yesterday. I was doing a weekly group ride. Our route takes us past a place where the owner is known to leave his large pack of dogs loose on his property and they love to chase cyclist. I was on the front of our pace line when we approached and heard the dogs coming. I told the guy behind me that I was pulling out my spray. I didn't want him to get caught by any fallout. I accelerated and three dogs came up on me pretty fast. I steered with one hand. I turned and took careful aim on the first dog being sure to get him in the snout. He dropped off and I hit the sencond and then the third dog. After that the rest of the pack, it was at least 10 dogs, stopped chasing and left the rest of the riders alone. The guys behind me informed me that each dog that I hit immediately dove to the side of the road pushing their face into the ground. I've wondered if this spray would work well because when testing it in my yard I noted that it seems to have a pretty weak spray and its more of a stream than a fog. I had tried to use the spray one time before but held the can upside down, it quit spraying, and didn't aim, just kind of sprayed in the general area of the dogs. So it didn't work very well. I've found the key to having Halt work is to be sure and hold the can upright and aim for the dogs snout. One thing that was helpful is that the spray is an orange stream. It acts kind of like a tracer bullit, in that it let me know exactly where it was going. I do wish the spray had a stronger and larger stream. It make it easier to hit the dog while moving. Otherwise, I would have given this 5 stars. The stream was good though in that nobody behind me got hit with any overspray.

It works!
I bought this about a month ago after I was on a walk and a neighborhood dog chased me into a ditch. I keep it with me when I go on my walks, and today I had to use it. The dog was within 3 feet of me and advancing slowly, closing distance as I backed up. I aimed for the face and sprayed the dog, and immediately the dog lost interest in me. There were no long lasting effects to the dog, but it halted the attack immediately. Crediting it with a 12-foot range is a bit generous. I would feel comfortable with saying it reaches 6 feet reliably, and maybe 8 in a pinch. There’s also about one good use per can, maybe two if you’re lucky.

Not for roosters...
I have a mean (thankfully bantam, and beautiful) rooster who lives his life trying to kill me. (I think it's because I didn't feed him fast enough, and tried to get some food to the hens when he wanted it all). I've tried, over the last year, simply grabbing him when he attacks, spraying him with water, shooing him with a broom, hitting him with a stick, and using an air horn ... these slow him down, but he comes right back at me, and has sent me twice to urgent care. So tried this today... It may work on dogs, but I can tell you it doesn't work on roosters. Hit him twice today with a full stream from two feet. Each time, he shook it off and came right back for more. Like I said, may discourage dogs, but I wouldn't trust it on a mad pit bull. I'll give it a 3 ... benefit-of-a-doubt 4 on small dogs and a resounding 0 on roosters, plus a little extra because it was easy to access, sprayed well, and didn't get on me.
