Great Quality but Expensive!!
I recently started making tsoureki (Greek Easter Bread) and bought this small pouch of mahlepi (also known as mahlab, mahlep, mahleb or a number of different names). The smell and flavor of this spice is fantastic!! Mahlepi has a sort of cherry-almond flavor that drifts through the house as you are baking. It's absolutely divine. This 10g pouch contains roughly 3 teaspoons of the spice. If you only plan to make one or two loaves of bread, this quantity may be right for you. My order shipped quickly and came in within a few weeks as it was shipped from Greece. I can tell you, though, that this price for mahlepi is highway robbery. Penzey's spices sells the same spice (labeled mahlab) at a fraction of the cost. I can't speak to the quality of the competing product as I have not tried it, but I will say what I received from Amazon was fresh and of high quality. The expiration date on the package was 2 years from when I bought it, so leftovers can be used next year should I want to make the tsoureki again. Overall I am happy with this product other than the price.

Flavor was good—Tsoureki came out great
I searched for Mahlepi (or Mahleb) to make my Easter Tsoureki this year, and three purchases were rancid. Finally found this one which was not. The aroma was great. It was pretty bitter so I did not skimp on the sugar as I sometimes do. The traditional braided bread came our flavorful and just sweet enough. I used the packet to make 14 12 ounce loaves.

Great Greek spice
We loved this flowery spice. I was not able to locate it by my hometown. It came straight from Greece, it was fresh, and worked well in my recipe. I found it to be pricey, however, I really wanted to try it. I may order larger size next time.

bait and switch
the image makes it appear to be a relatively large bag but it is only a 10g bag (the description states this). however, I should have taken the time to switch from metric to imperial measurements to recognize how small the package is, so partly my fault, but I feel that the photo is intentionally deceiving to make the buyer think they are purchasing a relatively large amount for the price. given the price. this is way too expensive, even if it is amazing quality.
