Préludes (Multilingual Edition)

Pieces are easy to read (quality ink printing, sufficiently dark, sized and spaced just right, and ivory/cream paper that’s super easy on the eyes). Pages flip easily thanks to heavy and sturdy paper stock, binding seems durable, and page turns are thoughtfully placed. Includes fingering suggestions. Annotations about alternate versions/notes are also interesting to try out. I spent way too much time comparing and debating between the different editions of Chopin. In the end I just went with Henle (tried and true), and was not disappointed. I’m not planning to play competitions so no need for the National Edition. And the book arrived in perfect condition. Do be careful with handling the book after lotioning your hands. Those stains will pick up and not go away. But it’s the cover so not a big deal.

Everything about it is pleasant -- the choice of paper, ink, style of the notation, and how it easily stays open on the piano. Also accurate. For example, Chopin's manuscript for the 13th prelude clearly shows "legato" at the bottom of the staff, indicating it for the left hand, but multiple 1st edition publications in the early 1800s show the word in the middle of the staff, perhaps implying it for both hands. But Henle has it in the correct location. What all that means to you, and how closely you want to remain "true" to Chopin's intention -- though he was obsessive about the score, he also famously played his own creations differently each time -- versus adding your own interpretation as another artist, remains of course up to you. What you probably don't want, is yet another editor getting in the middle of that process. That's why you buy a Henle.

This book came in an excellent condition, and it's a good version.

This edition of the Chopin Preludes is absolutely beautiful. The high quality off-white paper & clear printing should be the standard for all the music that is published. I M so glad I ordered it.

Shipped in perfectly, no bends. The piano score itself is nice and easy to read. 7mm rastral size and 9 x 12 paper makes this score easier to read than the usual 'letter' size papers and 6mm rastral size. It really makes a difference if your vision isn't 20/20.

Beautiful music, the best edition, the paper quality and the oversized book make a real difference in readability and resistance to eye fatigue.
