Live Russian Comfrey Root, Bocking 14 Cultivar by Verdant Treasures

So excited to say that all of my root cuttings are all sprouting! This arrived well packaged and great instructions for planting. I was impressed with a note from the sender asking for feedback on how the plants progress. I would definitely buy again and recommend. Thanks to the seller for my new comfrey babies.

Wow, can I say wow!! I purchased last season (2024) and planted the roots in three different spots. One in a grow bag, I know..kind of foolish but I wanted to try just temporarily until I found a better spot, and two in the front yard in mostly shady spots. First one in the front came up last year and was small, second one in the front didn't make it. Or so I thought... it showed up this year! And the first one has leaves bigger than my head!! So impressed! The grow bag...yeah we aren't going to talk about that. Epic fail. Don't try it at home. Highly recommend this seller, great product and I've already infused oils and made salves with it ..they must work if I have family calling and asking for some after gifting a few jars for Mother's Day. 😊

Will update review when or if the Comfrey sprouts. I was excited to find a seller for this Item on amazon, so I gave it a shot, And so far I am very happy. I was promised a cigarette sized cutting, and it is a good deal larger than a cigarette. The thickness I would estimate is about 30% larger, so I am very happy with my purchase at this time. If this sprouts, it will stay a 5 star review, If not, It will be downgraded to a 4 star review, as they have gone above and beyond and any potential failure at this point would have a tinge of my own personal ability involved, so can't fault them too much. Root cutting looks healthy! Update 8/21/2023 after I got the root cutting, let it soak for 4 hours, and put it into soil, it sprouted on the left. one week later, and it is also sprouting on the right. Very vigorous growth. Great seller. 5 Starts all around. Update 9/9/2023, I decided to repot them plants, and found they had taken over a 12" pot. they were not root bound, but the entire pot was filled with roots. I separated each plants root balls, and potted them into 20 gallon pots. Hopefully they root well for the foreseeable future, as I am astonished with these cute little plants. Adding two more pictures of their progress, prior to this, I only posted one photo. Ten month update 05/24/2024 plants have grown into full fledged comfrey plants, and have begun to flower, at the end of this season, or the start of the next, I plan to dig them up and check on the roots to see progress and will update again.

The Comfrey cuttings were received on November 16. I followed the directions provided and soaked them in water for 4 hours before planting. Here I have pictures of the plants right after unpacking and during the soak. Hopefully you can see that they are very healthy cuttings with no soft spots or any other blemishes. I elected not to cut the roots into smaller pieces (for more plants) because it is more important to me to have fewer more vigorous plants. By November 22 two of the plants had leaves. In six days Plant 1 is 3.5inches and Plant 2 is just over 2 inches tall. By December 1; Plant 1 is close to 10.5 inches with multiple leaves Plant 2 largest leaf is 7 inches and Plant 3 sprouted a leaf !! You can see the 3 in last photo provided. The directions provided with the plants state that it can take up to 60 days to see growth above ground – so I am just thrilled to have my last cutting showing growth. I did mess up and not cover Plant 3 completely but this has not seemed to hurt the plant. I have had these plants for 15 days. They are kept on my office floor by a window facing east and the room is kept in the mid 60’s. We have not had much sun and its been cold here, evenings in the 20’s. I elected to start them in 1gallon pots (due to root size) and used a good potting soil and kept the soil moist. These cuttings are AWESOME and they arrived with in a few days of ordering and in perfect shape. All I have done is follow the directions provided. After reading some of the reviews I was unsure if I would order, but the price was so appealing I decided to take the chance. Also, due to some of the reviews, I also committed to tracking the performance of these cuttings so I could give an objective and fair review. The instructions provided are through and right on! They arrived timely and healthy. I absolutely would buy these again!!!

I waited until I had leafing above soil before I added a review. I am working on an urban scale, .10 acre lot, 'food forest' and the soil is in zone 5a/b CO where the previous owner completely neglected the soil in the front and backyards. I scoured my local nurseries, big box stores and the internet and was shockingly surprised to find hardly any flowers or roots for sale given Bocking 14's notoriety and popularity amongst gardeners, or lack there of apparently, outside of permaculture. Long story short bought these to help heal and aid in rebuilding my soil and I am utterly amazed at 100% growth on several different locations, soil types and sun exposure etc!!! If you know or understand how comfrey works and its benefits to all things, then please know this is an incredible bargain. Seller is completely competent and knowledgeable of this plant and provides exact instructions that if followed, AND WITH PATIENCE, you will have the same results. This is an AMAZING super plant and I will be ordering more from this seller now that I have my results. Happy planting y'all!

This is a wonderful product. It grew for one thing, gorgeous flowers in the spring, bumble bees are going nuts over it. Easy to transplant as I do on the fringes of (not in) my garden. Broad leaves are also very pretty, and all the above before assessment of its values to the soil....
