Just brilliant. - This was a great read. Told over a couple of timescales, we eventually find out what happened to Tallulah and Zack. In 2017, they go out together for a rare date. They are parents to baby Noah but their relationship is coming to an end. At least for Tallulah. At 11pm Tallulah send a text to her mum who is babysitting, to let her know that they are going on to a friends house. That is the last communication from them. In 2018, Sophie and her boyfriend Shaun have just moved into a cottage in school grounds of a private school that Shaun will be headteacher of. Theirs is a relatively new relationship and Sophie is unsure whether she has done the right thing. She writes a successful cosy crime series under a pseudonym, which she can do from anywhere. She is unhappy therefore when the move stops her from continuing her next book. While on a walk she sees a cardboard sign that tells her to dig. The events of the two years start to collide as Sophie tries to find out exactly what happened to Tallulah and Zack. This was a great mystery with fabulous characters. The character of Scarlett was brilliant. She was an enigmatic character that drew people to her. Her friends just didn’t seem able to distance themselves from her. This was such a well plotted read. Lisa Jewell is brilliant at running two stories together but this plot had three. I wasn’t confused at all so the writing must have been superb. I loved the twists that you expect from this genre but it didn’t stop twisting until the end. Definitely one of her better books in my opinion. Review: Easy reading murder mystery - An easy-reading murder mystery, perhaps a bit far-fetched towards the end! And I nearly guessed whodunnit but not quite. But I’ve knocked off one star for being yet *another* of these infuriating novels where the timeline jumps about. 2017. 2018. 2017 and so on. Is there something wrong with starting at the beginning and going through to the end? I hope this fad passes soon.

A good mystery with a slightly rushed, disappointing ending
This is the first Lisa Jewell book I've read and it was very enjoyable. Good characters, great story and you always wanted to read one more chapter to get one step closer to finding out what was going on.

Hooked!
If you love thrillers that keep you guessing, The Night She Disappeared is a fantastic choice. Lisa Jewell delivers a great plot filled with twists, secrets, and suspense that will have you flipping pages late into the night. The story follows Tallulah, a young mother who vanishes after a night out with her boyfriend. A year later, a mystery writer moves into a nearby cottage and discovers a strange sign that reads “Dig Here.” As past and present timelines weave together, long-buried secrets begin to unravel, leading to shocking revelations. I loved the characters, especially Tallulah and her determined mother, Kim. Their emotions feel raw and real, making their journey even more gripping. The multiple perspectives and timelines are handled seamlessly, adding layers of depth to the mystery. The writing is easy to read, yet immersive, making this book a good page-turner. Jewell’s storytelling keeps the tension high, and just when you think you have it all figured out, another twist emerges. I highly recommend The Night She Disappeared to anyone who enjoys dark, atmospheric thrillers with well-developed characters and a mystery that keeps you hooked until the very last page.

Readable but unremarkable
I realised I had a few Lisa Jewell novels lurking on my kindle and decided it was time to get some read and archived. The last LJ novel I read I didn’t enjoy which is why I’d not been back to read the others I’d bought a while ago. Anyway this, like many LJ novels, is a quick and easy, unchallenging read, it’s longer than it needs to be and bit flabby because of that. I wonder if the author doesn’t aim for that big, fat beach paperback look, so keeps the editing to a minimum. The plot is OK and keeps you reading but the characters are very 2 dimensional, they never seem properly fleshed out and not very different to many other LJ characters. I felt the conclusion was pretty far fetched and let the book down. There were some odd phrases in the book which jarred with me, how can you “dismount from a car”, particularly a very small one?? All in all, better than the last one I read but unremarkable.

Edge of the seat suspense!
A brilliantly written , suspenseful story. One that invests you into every character ~ desperate to know their part in the storyline. Couldn’t wait for the end, but also didn’t WANT it to end as what will I look forward to reading in every spare minute now?!

I like all of LJ's thrillers (especially Watching You, which is a masterpiece) but this might be the best of all. Intricately constructed plot and a real puzzler, a great read. Hats off!

This is what I expect from a novel. If your looking for a real read, an indepth read, with a truly developed characters, compelling atmoshphere, and deep and luxious storyline, amazing prose, and dialogue that crackles off the page, this is your read. Great story. Kept me turning pages. Kept me wanting more. Because it's was a really well written book...not fluff...a great well-written book.
