Secrets of Power Negotiating,15th Anniversary Edition: Inside Secrets from a Master Negotiator Review: Outstanding! A must read. Absolutely fabulous guide to negotiation tactics.. - This is the only book you will ever need to read in order to be a better negotiator than 99% of the population. Whether you are a millionaire CEO, entrepreneur, housewife or college student, you will find universal principles in this book that can make a profound difference in your life. Dawson discusses simple rules and techniques of negotiating that can give you the edge you need, whether it is in a high dollar business deal or simply getting your kids to do their homework. Equally important, Dawson's theories and teachings will help prevent you from making critical mistakes in your negotiations. Most people violate the simple rules of negotiating and set themselves up to lose from the very beginning, without even realizing it. These simple mistakes can cost you lots of money over the course of your life, and therefore this book is a critical investment in your financial future. I would go as far to say that it is costing you money to NOT read this book. Even if you aren't a business person, this book will help you save money on everything from buying a home to shopping for furniture. I've read a couple other books on negotiation after this one, but they were not as helpful, and largely redundant and unnecessary. This is the book you want. Review: Amazing book, lots of useful tips for negotiating. - This book is so good. It gives you insights in how to use the various techniques to get what you want out of a deal. If you use this plan you will be a better negotiator, no doubt about it. There are a couple of things in the book that are a little bit over the top, as in almost every book. The main ideas that Roger Dawson tries to convey to the reader are repeated a couple times throughout the course of the book just so that the reader can really understand what needs to be done to negotiate well. I've used these techniques many times in my daily routine with small things so I can practice the skills. After a while I'll start using them with more important deals. Very helpful book. Not boring at all. You get your money's worth for it and you learn a lot from it.

Negotiating is a life skill; this is the best book I know on the subject
Imagine sitting across from someone who says: "I only have $5,000, that's all I have." "You've got to do better than that." "You've got to do MUCH better than that." "I don't have much time. What have you got?" "What if I doubled/tripled/etc my order?" I asked that question in a review I wrote about a book that didn't have answers for how to respond. I mentioned in that review that Dawson's "Power Negotiating" had the answers. So I thought it was about time to post this in a review for THE book. Knowing how to negotiate well is a life skill that could help us in so many ways. It's just not about buying cars or houses, or discussing salary, or selling or buying a product. It's life. It's your toddler asking for a cookie; it's your teenage daughter asking for new luggage and spending money (Dawson provides personal examples). Having good negotiation skills is an essential life skill, and I know of no better book on the topic than Dawson's. The book drags a bit in the chapters on mediation, arbitration, and conflict resolution. But the chapters on the negotiation gambits -- beginning, middle, and ending -- is everything you need to know. He also talks about unethical gambits -- great info so you are aware when others try it on you. I have this book on my shelf for quick reference.

Read a $10 book, get $100,000 more salary in a decade
I bought this book more than a decade ago. I was finding my first job. A career advisor said "read a book on negotiating salaries. It makes every minute of a professional interview worth $1000." Who doesn't want to make a grand a minute? At first, even walking seemed intimidating, let alone haggling. But over the first three years of my career I read this book 3 times. It's a masterclass in negotiation. The audio book is good too, but different. I attribute 15% of my income for the last decade to learning key lessons from this book. I've suggested it to many friends, but most don't have the time to read hundreds of pages for a job interview. Who's smarter, the person who saves 10 hours on a $10 book, or the one who spends that time and money to learn how to free up 300 hours of a 2080-hour work year, by increasing his pay rate? I have given up on insisting that friends and family learn to negotiate. But I had to write this review to thank Roger Dawson. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for life.

Pitched at the right level
I like self-help guides to "flow" and if they are written in a conversational tone then all the better. This hits the spot in this regard - it is easy to read and gives real-life examples as it goes along. Now I'm not a negotiator so I can't say if this is the best guide out there on this subject, but I can tell you that it has increased my negotiating knowledge ten-fold and I regard it as an absolutely essential business book. It's terrible though when you reflect and think about all the times you've been taken to the cleaners in the past by "negotiating professionals" simply because they knew what they were doing and you didn't. Oh, well...

Threw away all my other negotiation books
For me, this is the best negotiation book I have ever read. I'm only half way through but I decided to chuck all of my other negotiation books. I was looking for something that would give me exactly what to say in typical day to day negotiation situations. This is the perfect book for that as it's packed with scripts. I wish I had this book years ago. I have had various job offers that I barely negotiated. After reading this book I realized how much money I was leaving on the table. Do yourself a favor and get this book. Employing these tactics will benefit your wallet.

Sirve para formular estrategias considerando las fortalezas y debilidades y las restricciones de cada uno para saber que y cuando dar o ceder para llegar al cierre.

Very good book who explains good ways of negotiating, what to be carefull of and in my eye there is also a part of it to improve your self esteem. I'll probably buy other books from the same author.

I bought this after watching an interview with one of the business angels who invested in EverNote - he was asked during his presentation which books he would recommend an entrepreneur to read. He suggested this one, so I quickly headed off to Amazon and read the reviews, then bought it, along with "Getting Past No", but I am still to read that one, You will read this book (as everyone else has said) nodding your head, saying "I've had that used against me". The concept of Next Higher Authority is so obvious and yet so simple! It's not until he uses an example of buying a car and you go "OF COURSE" and then go "BUGGER" when you realise someone used it on you.. I quickly found myself using some of the Gambits in conversation with my customers and yes, they do indeed work! "So, if I do this for you, what can you do for me?", PO's are coming in quicker all over a sudden! Simply get this book if you are serious about professional selling or running your own business.

This book gives you several gambits to play the game of negotiation. During my reading I applied one or two of the gambits and it worked! Imagine that would happen with the others ones! Great book.
