Mindful of Words: Spelling and Vocabulary Explorations 4-8 (Solving Problems in the Teaching of Literacy)

I like this book because it is helpful to students with dyslexia in that the author actually teaches pupils how's how to sort the words by various attributes. Also, the author breaks down the meaning of the base words and how meaning changes once a prefix or suffix is added to the word. Easy to use and good explanation of concepts.

We bought this book as it is the basis of my 4th grader's spelling worksheet this year. I must admit that I am not impressed with the word sorts or the explanations of why the particular words fit into different categories. My daughter's teachers don't seem to understand either as she has had confusing 'explanations' throughout the year.

Great resource to use with small groups or tutoring. I teach 8th grade and work with some students who have spelling deficiencies. They are able to sort the words and then generate their own spelling patterns and rules. They also enjoy the discussions about word origins.

Excellent, useful, practical. Greatly aids with precise differentiation for spelling/vocabulary/phonetic work

Used in class, and book still looked new.
