Travelers dream!
Okay, so we drove nearly 800 miles from the mountains of NC to the OBX of NC and back. We had a 3 piece wheeled luggage set plus two other large bags in this thing....as well as 2 body boards. We loaded this thing full but not too full. Honestly we could have put some soft items in it to fill it up (like deflated inflatables or pillows) but I didn't want to push it. Super easy to install it on the hard top car (no racks and no rails). (see details of the durability at the end) *Tips: Wash the car to prevent scratching it and make sure the bags is clear of debris on the bottom. Unzip the back before throwing on the car with the solid side facing your front windshield. Then load the product in the bag and zip it up. Once zipped, then you can loop the ties through the buckles and then to the car stripping (with doors open). Once in place, CLOSE the door BEFORE tightening the straps. Once the door is closed on the properly placed strap, then tighten it down. Now you can open your door and the strap will not come off the stripping. If you tighten it with the door open you could damage the stripping or your face when the hook lets loose and pops your mouth! **Helpful hints: 1) This will increase your fuel consumption a ton. Normally I get 38-42 mpg in my Chevy Cruze going 70 mph, however I noticed that I was getting about 20mpg with this on my car. 2) The wind does wisp in your ear as you are driving....especially the front seats. So once we were in the vehicle, we used gorilla tape along the interior of the stripping and it was not bad at all. Of course, when you make a pit stop, you will have to reapplying the tape. Gorilla not duck...duck does not have the same thickness of Gorilla. Trust me...we put duck up and then stopped at Dollar General for Gorilla! We had 4 adults taking a 7 hour drive for a week's vacation at the beach in which we had to pack for both summer, fall and winter (because NC is bipolar) and this was a life saver! We packed our beach gear (cooler, picnic basket, body boards, inflatables and pump, along with so many towels) while on the banks so that we had everything at hand...while packing chairs and other items in the trunk. We experienced a Northeaster and Gulf Stream depression which collided off the coast for 3 days and turned into a tropical storm which sent 25 foot waves over the dunes onto the only highway (Hwy12) which we were driving on. This bag was literally drenched by the salty ocean water and pounds of sand, relentless beating for days. We drove through door high standing water that was hydroplaned onto my whole car during the worst of the storm. Not one item inside the bag was wet! Not one. The towels were as dry as they were from the dryer! I was shocked. This thing was literally battle tested!!! I literally left the bag on top of my car when the rain was sideways and swirling and it was not even phased...not even a little. I was amazed by the quality of the bag! ***I was not paid for nor asked to give my review.

Great bag with lots of room!
This is a great bag and very versatile! I loved the fact you can use this bag with or with out roof rails. The quality is top notch and very durable. I was a little skeptical at first but we were able to fit a large amount of cargo in this. 2 large suitcases 1 medium, a duffle bag, 4 small bags plus a bunch of other miscellaneous items. It was easy to setup and clung into place well using the weather stripping hooks and a non slip mat. The straps can generate some noise at speeds higher than 60. We hit speeds of 85 in some spots though with no issues. Through 14 hours of driving each way, a rain storm and off roading on a beach our cargo remained in place and dry. I don't know what I did before I had this bag!

Great for the money
Like other reviewers have said, this is water resistant, not water proof. But if you know that going in, And you don't want to spend the money on a hard shell, this is a great option. We took this camping about 2 hours away on a Subaru Outback. Going there, we had to stop and adjust the straps because they were incredibly noisy on the interstate. But that was just trial and error on our part. Coming home we drove through torrential rain, stopping for about an hour in the worst of it. So through 3 hours of heavy rain, the sleeping bags on the edges were damp but not soaked. I'd make this purchase again and work around it it not being water-tight to avoid paying for and storing a hardshell.

Got the Job Done Without much Hassle
Drove about 600 miles (965 km) with this holding some some bags and a stroller. Went through some light rain and everything held up, nothing got wet. Carrier is still in great shape. Only issue I had is that one of the straps came loose while driving so that edge of the bag was moving/flapping somewhat. Had to pull over to secure it. I would recommend to tie a knot after putting straps through loops, just as a precaution.

A great hat for your car!
I have now had this car bag for over 4 years and it is still going strong! I only use it once or twice a year, and only for camping trips within a few hours' drive, but it has become part of our camping essentials. It is easy to use, stays secure, and can hold a pretty decent amount of stuff. The zippers can be a bit tough to pull on at times, but they are really great, solid zippers, so I am on with that. The velcro is really good and strong as well. It is easy to secure to our car (a 2014 Prius) and stays put. Sometimes you need to adjust one of the straps to stop it from whistling when you are zipping down the highway, but it's not a big deal. Honestly, it is better than I thought it would be. When it is time for an upgrade, years down the road, I would buy another Rightline.

Just look elsewhere
This didn't even make it 200 miles into a 600 mile trip before it started falling apart. Attached to the top of my Escalade at speeds of 55-70 with no rain - this started to rip and tear all over. We barely loaded this bag and it was attached per instructions. We were lucky to make it to our destination without losing our luggage or any damage, but we didn't trust it on the return.

Looked sturdy at first, but failed the test...
I was really exited when I finally opened it and rushed to install it on the top of my car. Installation was fairly easy and it contained lots of space which helped me free a lot of space in the car. The second time i used it (on my way back home) I installed it the same way, but when i reached home and unpacked i noticed that sewed scotch which helped the flaps stay in place on the drive was torned off and there was a bit of a tear on the top cover. I will probably be able to use this product again, but I don't really know how long its going to last.. too bad..

We bought this for a trip up north and were pleasantly suprised at the quality and capacity for the price. Durable and remained dry through a minor rain storm. We don't have usable roof racks, so we bought this to clip into the doors and it worked great. Didn't move an inch once strapped down. Comes with clips, which wasnt clear so we bought some, but no biggie. Easy to use and everything we needed.

Excellent! WE used this for our family holiday driving around NZ. We don't have roof racks and it fit perfectly on the car, easy to use and saved so much space in the car. Would highly recommend!

We used this for a total drive of over 3500km and this thing is TOUGH. It didn't get any water in it and it held alot of camping gear. The one thing I will say though is do NOT use this on your vehicle if you do not have roof rack cross bars! Or if you do go that route do not pack it very heavily like we did. Our SUV that doesn't have cross bars nearly lit on fire from the pressure on the roof. There was electrical shorting and causing a ton of smoke in the car. So please use caution. Otherwise this thing is very durable.

Not tested in heavy rain but looks like it’ll do the job well. Surprised how much I could load into it. Not sure how secure it’ll be without roof bars the fixings didn’t look that great. Could maybe use a couple more straps to secure it. I bought to ratchet straps to really hold it down in place. Was solid and have is no problems. Would definitely recommend with the extra straps and using roof bars.
