Review: Native American legend in modern times - When my wife was a little girl growing up in Cleveland, her father, Al Brew,(a butcher then), brought Chief Bill Red Fox home for supper. The Chief was under contract with Rath Meats and for public relations, was going around the country helping to sell the Rath products. You may remember the great logo they had of a Native American side view in that great war bonnet?.Remember "Blackhawk bacon"?It was based on Chief Red Fox's image. William Red Fox was a young boy in the encampment on the Little Big Horn river, watching Custer's unit in its' final battle, and Chief Crazy Horse was Red Fox's uncle, leading the warriors of that skirmish. This book details the things Red Fox saw that day, and follows him into adulthood where he later worked for Bill Cody and the Wild West show. Chief Red Fox was indeed one of the "real Indians" in early Hollywood films, (before sound pictures), and the book has numerous observations of the early westerns and their stars. Great book, should be required reading, for anybody interested in the role Native Americans had in the late 1800's and with early Hollywood............

Chief Red Fox is buried in Corpus Christi Texas. He died at 106 years old and witnessed the battle of Little Big Horn. Lots of information on early life of the Indians.

This book is a must read for 12yrs. and up
I read this after a vacation to Oklahoma and the Trail of Tears. Chief Red Fox tells his own story and it is going too bring you to tears. A must read for children to understand history. Only comes in paperback, hardback was super unavailable and expensive.

Really one of the great books of all time
Really one of the great books of all time, just loved this. It is honest, filled with wisdom, and should be recognized as a great book of American and Native American history. His insights and anecdotes inspired me, saddened me, but also made me more hopeful about what people could do. The Memoirs of Chief Red Fox

Things so few alive remember.
I first read this book from our library when I was 18-20. I was so glad to find it here! There is so much information given in a concise manner that I have seen nowhere else. Chief Red Fox was an amazing man. This should be required reading for anyone studying Native American culture, including the Native Americans. Absolutely fascinating.

Great Memory!
When I was a little girl Chief Red Fox would visit our school ince a year in the late 60’s and early 70’s. He would wear his beautiful headgear and teach us about Indian history and culture. This was in Laredo Texas. I Always remember this!

This is an excellent little out of print book for anyone interested in the North American Indians interesting to read about historical incidents such as Powder River from the Indian viewpoint rather than the whiteman's sanitised version
