Does this unit save directly to a computer or do you have to save to SD Card and then to the computer?

With a Mac, you have to save images to an SD card or the device's built-in memory (only 128 MB). Then you choose USB Upload and you can transfer the images to your computer.

How do you delete images from the scanner device memory?

The KODAK Mini Digital Film & Slide Scanner can use two memory sources for storing scanned images. One memory is its own built-in internal memory that holds 128 megabytes. The other is a much greater capacity removable SD card that can only be a maximum of 32 gigabytes that the user has to supply. I have found that for scanning 35 millimeter color slides, the internal memory consistently holds 44 jpeg images using the 14 megapixel mode. Specifically, to delete images from the KODAK Mini Digital Film & Slide Scanner's internal memory, it is identical to the SD card but with the SD card removed from the scanner, so do the following: First, turn the scanner off if it is on. Before turning the scanner back on, remove the SD card if it has one, and store the card safely according to the instructions supplied with it, SD cards are easily damaged by static electricity and fingerprints on the metal contacts. If is not already connected, connect either the supplied USB cable to a computer or the supplied power supply cable to the scanner and push the power button to turn it on. After the device is on, it usually says "no card" and then immediately changes to "capture". If not, push the "home" button that has the image of a house on it. At the bottom of the screen are five images. Using the two arrow keys on the far left and right on top, move the images on the screen until the one that says "SD" is in the center with the word "Format" above it, and above that is "SD" inside a box inside a circle. Even though the screen images all say "SD", proceeding any further will delete all images in the internal memory by formatting it. There is no way to delete individual images, it is "all or none". At this point, press the button on top that says "OK". A message will appear on the screen for about two seconds that says: "All content will be deleted" followed by: "Format the media?" with "YES [NO]" in the line beneath it. Again, using the two arrow keys on the far left and right on top, move the box from around the word "[NO]" to "YES", and then push the button labeled "OK". Next, the screen will display "formatting ........". When completed, it will momentarily display "format is successful" if the format was successful. The display will then return to "Capture". The internal memory is now empty and formatted, and ready for use without further attention, or the SD card can be put back in and used instead, since it disconnects the internal memory until it is removed.

Can this be used for 35mm mounted slides?

Yes! Normally, I have found that slides take about 2 or 3 seconds each to scan when they can be slid through without interruption. However the slide mounts must be the common 50 millimeter square size (just a tiny bit under 2 inches) and not the less common 2-1/4 by 2-1/4 inch square size that will not fit through the access slot in the 50 millimeter slide adapter guide, and no more than 1.5 millimeter thick (about 1/16 of an inch), which are within the accepted standard dimensions used for conventional cardboard and plastic film holders for 35mm film, also called type 135 film. Metal film holders that are 50 millimeters square have also been used for slides, and may be far too thick to feed through the Kodak Mini Digital Film & Slide Scanner. By experimenting, I have found that the 50 millimeter slide adapter guide will hold slides with a thickness up to 2.5 millimeters (about 1/10 of an inch), but they have to be inserted by opening the hinged access panel in the slide adapter guide and placing the slide in the scanning area, closing and latching the access panel, and then inserting the slide adapter guide into the scanner before scanning the image. Then after scanning the slide, the slide adapter guide has to be pulled out of the scanner, opening the hinged access panel to remove the slide, and the process repeated to do the next slide, doing them individually one at a time instead of rapidly sliding them through the scanner in a steady stream, one after the other. Doing them one at a time still produces a high quality image, but just takes more time.
